In typical fashion, Real Madrid are making bold moves in the transfer market and have reportedly joined the race to sign 19-year-old sensation Yan Diomande.
The RB Leipzig winger is among the most sought-after young talents in football. Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain had appeared to be his most likely suitors, but The Athletic reports that Real Madrid have now thrown their hat into the ring and will attempt to negotiate a deal with the German club.
Diomande had reportedly made joining back-to-back Champions League holders PSG his top priority, despite Liverpool's apparent readiness to splash the cash on the winger. While the Parisians were considered frontrunners to land his signature, they have been somewhat put off by a price tag expected to comfortably surpass the $115 million (€100 million) threshold.
Real Madrid have now moved to capitalize on the situation, and Los Blancos' entry into the race could dramatically reshape the entire transfer saga.
Real Madrid Opening Offer for Diomande Rejected—Report
According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have already had an opening bid for Diomande turned down by Leipzig.
Los Blancos submitted an offer worth $115 million (€100 million) including add-ons earlier this week, which was promptly rejected by the German club, per Romano's report. Leipzig have publicly declared their intention to retain Diomande, who completed his first season at the club and is contracted through 2030.
Nevertheless, Real Madrid are expected to continue negotiations with Leipzig—a club with a well-established track record of developing young talent and selling them for massive fees—in the days ahead. Should Los Blancos table an improved offer for the Ivorian starlet, Leipzig may be willing to reconsider their position.
At this stage, however, PSG also remain in discussions with the Bundesliga outfit, meaning Real Madrid face stiff competition to get the transfer across the line.
Why Real Madrid Want Yan Diomande
Real Madrid are keen to bring in a right winger before the close of the summer window, given the possibility that Brahim Díaz could depart the club this summer, per The Athletic. Even if the Morocco international ultimately remains, Diomande could already represent an upgrade on the right flank.
Additionally, Los Blancos are still managing without injured Brazilian star Rodrygo. The two-time Champions League winner with Madrid continues to recover from an ACL injury sustained in early March and is not expected to return to action until early 2027.
Los Blancos could boast a fearsome attacking lineup featuring Diomande, Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Júnior, and Jude Bellingham—arguably the most formidable attack in Europe on paper.
News of Real Madrid's pursuit of Diomande emerged just hours after reports surfaced that Los Blancos had stepped up their interest in 2026 World Cup Golden Ball winner Rodri. The Spaniard appeared to have rediscovered his 2024 Ballon d'Or form this summer and could prove to be the ideal long-term replacement for Toni Kroos at Madrid.
Los Blancos' entry into the Diomande race sends a clear message of ambition. Real Madrid are once again pursuing elite talent in the transfer market and are willing to invest heavily in their bid to end Barcelona's two-season grip on Spanish football and mount a challenge for a 16th Champions League crown in 2026–27.
