Despite reported interest from his former club River Plate, Real Madrid winger Franco Mastantuono is said to be heading to Serie A side Fiorentina on a loan deal.
The teenager made his move to the Spanish capital last summer in a transfer valued at €63.2 million ($72.8 million), but struggled to justify his hefty price tag. Mastantuono managed only three goals across 35 appearances, the majority of which came as late substitute cameos in matches that were already settled.
With five new signings arriving this summer—and the potential additions of Yan Diomande and Rodri still on the horizon—Real Madrid need to free up squad space, and Mastantuono appears to be the most likely candidate to depart the Bernabéu.
The Athletic reports that the Argentine is expected to join Fiorentina on a straight loan with no purchase option attached, similar to Endrick's temporary spell at Lyon last season. River Plate had expressed interest in re-signing Mastantuono, as had clubs from Saudi Arabia, but Real Madrid were determined to keep the forward within European football.
Mastantuono's Exit Comes Amid Diomande Pursuit
If Mastantuono's transfer to Fiorentina goes through, it would leave José Mourinho with a notable shortage of options on the right wing, with Brahim Díaz standing as the only natural right winger currently in the Bernabéu squad.
Rodrygo had previously made that position his own, but the Brazilian remains sidelined as he recovers from a serious ACL injury. Endrick can also operate on the flank, though he is most effective when deployed as a central striker.
That vacancy could be the perfect opportunity for Diomande to step in. The 19-year-old, who racked up 22 goal contributions for RB Leipzig last season, is eager to join Real Madrid, having reportedly chosen the 15-time European champions ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool.
Reports had suggested a transfer fee of approximately $156 million (€135 million) had been agreed, though a dispute between agents was believed to be complicating proceedings—a claim that RB Leipzig managing director Marcel Schäfer has since pushed back on.
Schäfer also addressed the wave of transfer speculation surrounding the Ivory Coast international, insisting the Diomande-to-Real Madrid deal was far from finalized. "It's clear that some so-called transfer experts reported a few days ago that the deal was done or gave it the 'here we go.' That's simply not the case. We're not at that stage yet," Schäfer told Sky Sports Germany.
Latest Diomande Update Plays in Real Madrid's Favor
Schäfer's comments appeared to be a direct response to journalist Fabrizio Romano, whose trademark "Here we go!" social media announcement of Diomande's move to Real Madrid was posted over a week ago—yet the transfer remains unconfirmed.
Romano, however, is standing by his reporting and offered a fresh update, revealing that Real Madrid were in discussions with the player's representatives and RB Leipzig on Tuesday "to get the green light" for Diomande to travel and undergo a medical ahead of signing his contract with Los Blancos.

"The reality is Yan Diomande is going to wear Real Madrid's shirt this summer," he added, stressing that the situation remains "very calm," with only the formalities left to complete.
Should Diomande complete his move to the Bernabéu, he would slot into an attack that currently boasts Vinícius Júnior, Kylian Mbappé, and Jude Bellingham.
