Manchester United could inadvertently benefit from Real Madrid's sudden interest in Rodri, given the ripple effect the 2026 World Cup winner's potential arrival could have on Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga.
Despite initially showing little concern over Rodri's public desire to join Los Blancos and his need for back surgery following the World Cup, Real Madrid reversed course after his Golden Ball-winning displays in North America this summer and are now actively chasing a deal.
Offloading Tchouaméni or Camavinga isn't strictly necessary to land Rodri, but it would certainly help from a financial standpoint. Being pushed out of Real Madrid's first-choice lineup could also lead the Frenchman to reconsider his commitment to the club.
The Daily Mail reports that Premier League clubs are "on alert" regarding Tchouaméni, while BBC Sport suggests that Madrid are "willing to discuss" a potential sale.
Manchester United were believed to have made initial contact over a possible move at the beginning of the summer, but a major stumbling block has been Tchouaméni's own desire to stay at the Bernabéu. He had reportedly agreed to extend his contract through 2031, though that has yet to be officially confirmed, and his current stance remains unclear.

Any bid to acquire Tchouaméni, even if he were to signal a desire to leave Real Madrid, would still come at a steep cost—potentially exceeding $90 million. His annual wages are estimated at just under $14 million, which could equally pose a challenge for interested clubs.
United stepped back from pricier pursuits involving Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, opting instead for more budget-friendly moves for Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. With other areas of the squad still needing reinforcement, the club has largely been linked to more economical options such as Tyler Adams, Mamadou Sangaré and Danilo. The appeal of the now-scrapped Éderson deal was similarly rooted in its modest price tag.
It's not that United lack the funds for Tchouaméni—it's more a question of whether the outlay makes sense given their broader transfer priorities. Carlos Baleba is the only other realistic defensive midfield target with a similar valuation, though his base salary is estimated to be well under $1 million.
Door Opens Wider to Eduardo Camavinga
Should Rodri's move to the Spanish capital diminish Tchouaméni's playing time, it could effectively spell the end of Eduardo Camavinga's Real Madrid career. The young Frenchman is already facing an uphill struggle after a poor finish to last season ultimately cost him his spot at the World Cup.

Camavinga, at 23, could be viewed as the more attractive option, given that he has slightly more of his prime years ahead compared to his compatriot, and his transfer fee and wages are both lower.
The former Rennes starlet possesses the dynamism, pace and work rate to thrive in the disruptive midfield role that Manchester United need to restore balance. That said, like Tchouaméni, he had been intent on remaining in Madrid, meaning an approach would only be worthwhile if his outlook has since shifted.
