Real Madrid's Courtois Shocks Fans with Unexpected Career Plan After Football
Thibaut Courtois spoke about his love for motorsport and his aspirations for his personal TC Racing team to potentially reach Formula 2 competition in the coming years.
Courtois is nearing the end of a football career that has brought him seven league championships across four clubs in three nations, plus two Champions League victories and over 100 international appearances for Belgium. However, soccer isn't his sole sporting interest, and becoming a full-time racing team owner might be his post-retirement path.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper has been a lifelong Ferrari enthusiast, particularly admiring Michael Schumacher.
"I also follow MotoGP, but my main passion lies with motor racing and Formula 1," Courtois shared with Sporza during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend at Spa, "...which is why I also watch Formula 2 and 3.
"Several years back, I was approached to sponsor a Formula E team in Spain. That led me to establish my own team, and my enthusiasm has only intensified since then. I make an effort to attend a grand prix whenever possible. I've already visited Monaco, Le Castellet, Barcelona and, naturally, [Spa]. It's always enjoyable."
TC Racing isn't yet a prominent name in motorsport circles, but Courtois envisions his team expanding as they progress through different competition tiers, though you likely won't see him featured in a future season of Netflix's Drive to Survive.
"We're currently competing in Formula 4 in Spain, but typically we'll advance one level next year by entering the Eurocup-3," he clarified.
"Formula 1 might be somewhat challenging, as I'd require a substantial partner for that. But our objective and aspiration is to progress to Formula 3 and then ideally even Formula 2."
