Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez remained coy on the prospect of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland joining the Spanish giants, yet still managed to drop a telling hint: "When there is a good one, I go for him."
Just a day after staging an unusual emergency press conference to announce a new round of elections at Real Madrid, Pérez spoke publicly once more, this time sitting down with LaSexta to discuss a broad range of subjects, including his ambitions for the upcoming summer transfer window.
It's widely known that Los Blancos are in need of reinforcements at the Bernabéu following two consecutive trophy-less seasons. A deep-lying playmaker and a center back remain the top priorities, though a high-profile pursuit of Haaland has also been the subject of speculation.
When questioned about potential summer additions, Pérez stated, "Well of course. There have always been signings, we have always brought in the best. I signed [Luís] Figo, Kaká, Ronaldo, [David] Beckham ... When there is a good one, I go for him."
The president was then pushed directly on Haaland, but offered only a brief and guarded response. "Haaland? I do not give an opinion on that. It is a job for the sporting management. I do not get involved in the sporting management."
How Haaland Would Fit at Real Madrid

On paper, a side already boasting Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappé in attack hardly seems to require the additional goal threat of Haaland. Yet one thing became painfully evident in 2025–26: Real Madrid are crying out for a genuine No. 9.
Mbappé and Vinicius Jr frequently occupy the same areas on the left flank, leaving a glaring void through the center of the attack. Rarely is there a player making penetrating runs into the box or positioning themselves to convert a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold or a through ball from Jude Bellingham.
Haaland would address both of those issues, providing Los Blancos with a clinical, old-fashioned striker who excels in his role. The catch, however, is that it would force either Vinicius Jr or Mbappé to operate on the right wing.
While both attackers have occasionally drifted to that side during matches this season, neither should be considered a natural fit on the opposite flank. Real Madrid would therefore be compelled to make a decision they have been sidestepping since acquiring Mbappé: only the Frenchman or Vinicius Jr could feature in the starting lineup.
How Real Madrid Could Afford Haaland

The tactical complications Haaland's signing would introduce make the deal seem rather improbable, as does his valuation. The Norwegian international, contracted to City through 2034, would command a fee reportedly as steep as €250 million (£216.4 million, $292.4 million).
Real Madrid have never shied away from splashing the cash, but in recent times they have shown a clear preference for acquiring players on free transfers. Notably, the club's priciest signing under Pérez remains Bellingham, who arrived for €127 million in 2023.
Funding such a monumental deal for Haaland would likely necessitate the Spanish club generating significant funds through a major departure, such as that of Vinicius Jr. The Brazilian international, whose contract runs out at the end of next season, has yet to agree a new deal following months of drawn-out negotiations.
After a turbulent campaign at the Bernabéu, during which Vinicius Jr bore much of the criticism — particularly for his conduct under Xabi Alonso — speculation surrounding a potential exit has been rife, which would undoubtedly pave the way for Haaland's arrival.
In all likelihood, though, Haaland will remain in sky blue while Vinicius Jr continues to build his legacy at Real Madrid, unless either party makes a surprising move.
