It has been a turbulent week for Madrid in the build-up to the match, as an already disappointing campaign has descended into complete disarray.
Madrid issued an official statement on Thursday confirming that Federico Valverde had been hospitalized following a head injury sustained during an altercation with teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni at the training ground. Both players have received substantial fines, and the club considers the matter resolved.
Valverde reportedly needed stitches after striking his head on a table during the incident, though the Uruguayan maintained in his own statement that no physical blows were exchanged. Both players will be unavailable for Sunday's fixture.

He has since had successful surgery and is working through a gradual rehabilitation process. He will not play again for Madrid this season and has also been ruled out of the summer's World Cup with Brazil.
Éder Militão
In yet another injury-plagued season, Militão suffered a further setback last month when he was substituted off during Madrid's 2–1 victory over Alavés.
The club subsequently confirmed the Brazilian had sustained a hamstring injury, and he is not expected to return this season, with his World Cup participation also under serious threat.
Arda Güler
Much like Militão, Güler picked up a hamstring injury during the win against Alavés and has been ruled out for the rest of Madrid's 2025–26 season.
The 21-year-old had been one of the few positives for Madrid this campaign, contributing six goals and 13 assists across all competitions.
Ferland Mendy
Mendy has endured a torrid time with fitness this season, having already missed 29 matches through injury during the campaign.
The 30-year-old French left back suffered a thigh muscle tear early in Sunday's 2–0 win over Espanyol and will be sidelined for the rest of the season.
Some reports indicate the injury could keep Mendy out for six months or more—a deeply frustrating development for both player and club. Mendy has just one year remaining on his contract at Madrid.
Federico Valverde
Valverde was rushed to hospital after reportedly striking his head on a table during Thursday's training ground confrontation with Tchouaméni.
In an official club statement, Madrid revealed that the vice-captain had sustained a traumatic brain injury that is expected to sideline him for 10–14 days.

Dani Carvajal
