Record-Breaking January Blockbuster Signing Sends Shockwaves Through Club
Crystal Palace have finalized the acquisition of Tottenham Hotspur attacker Brennan Johnson in what has been announced as a record-breaking transfer for the club.
The 24-year-old netted the decisive strike for Spurs in the previous season's Europa League final versus Manchester United—part of his 18-goal tally across all tournaments, marking the highest total for any player under former boss Ange Postecoglou.
Johnson hasn't managed to maintain similar influence in north London following Thomas Frank's takeover, featuring in only six Premier League fixtures out of a potential 19 while accumulating merely 601 minutes—equivalent to fewer than six complete matches.
It comes as little shock that Johnson chose to embrace Palace's proposal for an extended contract, trading north London for south in a transaction reportedly valued at approximately £35 million ($47.2 million).

Johnson remained with Spurs for just under two-and-a-half seasons, having penned a six-year deal in September 2023 when £47.5 million was invested for his signature. He found the net 27 times in 107 appearances across all competitions, primarily operating from the right flank, and his debut campaign saw him lead the club's assist statistics with 10.
On the international stage, Johnson boasts 42 appearances for Wales and is anticipated to feature prominently in his nation's campaign to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Craig Bellamy's squad must navigate the playoffs to secure their place in the tournament being jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico—Bosnia and Herzegovina await first in a two-leg encounter before the victor faces either Italy or Northern Ireland in a decisive final.
