Few clubs in world football are as appealing right now as Como 1907, and the key figures in Cesc Fàbregas's thrilling project beside the Italian lake have no intention of departing.
Energized by a rare alignment across the club's hierarchy, Fàbregas has helped transform the ambitious outfit into Champions League contenders. Como made their return to the top flight after more than two decades in 2024 and have rapidly cemented themselves among Italy's elite.
A fourth-place finish last season saw them leapfrog storied clubs Juventus and AC Milan into a Champions League berth, and Fàbregas's vibrant side marked their competition debut with an emphatic 4–1 victory over RB Leipzig to kick off the 2026–27 league phase.
Former Real Madrid youngster Nico Paz has naturally drawn the lion's share of attention, but Como's remarkable collective strength is the true reason behind their meteoric rise. Fàbregas is getting the very best out of every player available to him, and several clubs have been left regretting their decisions to sell to the Lariani.
None more so than Real Madrid, who retain a unilateral buyback option on Paz following an agreement reached with Como and the player in June allowing him to remain in Italy this season. Yet the Argentine playmaker isn't the only one Los Blancos are eager to reclaim.
Ramón Currently Not Considering Real Madrid Return
Real Madrid allowed center back Jacobo Ramón to join Como for just $3 million in the summer of 2025, watching the 21-year-old blossom into one of Europe's most promising young defenders under Fàbregas's guidance. Fabrizio Romano reported at the time that Madrid had included a 50% sell-on clause in the deal, along with three buyback clauses—mirroring the arrangement made with Paz.
Ramón has flourished in Italy. He has been a cornerstone of Como's defensive unit since his arrival, playing a pivotal role in their Champions League qualification last season with 32 Serie A appearances to his name.
Life at Madrid was never quite so straightforward for the young Ramón, despite the then-teenage defender holding his own as he broke into the senior setup. He spent the majority of his time with Castilla, though he did make six appearances for the first team before departing.
Madrid clearly didn't anticipate such a swift ascent, and, according to AS, they are already eyeing a move to bring the 21-year-old back next season. However, Madridista Ramón currently has no wish to leave Como. As AS puts it, "his priority is to play and feel important wherever he is."
Ramón reportedly turned down the opportunity to return to the Spanish capital this past summer, and even if Los Blancos could exercise their buyback option for as little as $10.2 million next year, the final say will ultimately belong to Ramón himself.
Arsenal and Chelsea Have Shown Interest in Como Defender
Ramón's emergence has predictably caught the eye of the financial powerhouses of the Premier League as well.
The AS report indicates that Arsenal and Chelsea are also monitoring the 21-year-old defender. Both clubs are managed by Spanish coaches, and Xabi Alonso, notably, had a brief working relationship with Ramón during his spell on the touchline at the Santiago Bernabéu. The Athletic reported in June that Ramón was among the central defenders Chelsea evaluated before ultimately settling on Crystal Palace's Maxence Lacroix.
Alonso's Blues have looked alarmingly vulnerable defensively since the start of his tenure in west London, making reinforcements at the back appear all but certain next summer.
Arteta, meanwhile, rarely lets a summer transfer window pass without adding a defender, though few Arsenal supporters would currently argue that bolstering their backline should be the top priority heading into next year.
