Cavan Sullivan's meteoric ascent in American soccer reached new heights on Thursday, when the Philadelphia Union's 16-year-old sensation etched his name in the record books as the youngest American player to find the net in Concacaf Champions Cup competition.
Embracing expanded duties early in the campaign, the Philadelphia-born talent struck twice in the Union's commanding 7–0 victory over Defence Force from Trinidad and Tobago. Beyond his double strike, he contributed two assists in a record-breaking display.

"We understood our advantage, but our approach remained unchanged," Sullivan reflected after the match, having claimed the Concacaf Superior Player of the Match recognition, which came without branding as he couldn't accept the Michelob Ultra-sponsored award due to age restrictions.
"Our intense pressing showed they struggled to cope... It was a complete team effort from the back, and when you achieve that foundation, the goals come through quick transitions."
This exceptional display adds to Sullivan's growing collection of milestone achievements, having previously become the youngest athlete to compete for a major North American professional sports franchise and the second-youngest player in MLS history to earn a starting role.

Despite the morale-boosting result, the MLS journey ahead presents obstacles for the reigning Supporters' Shield holders, following their 1–0 setback to former striker Tai Baribo and D.C. United on opening day.
After losing much of the elite talent that secured the Supporters' Shield, they must establish their MLS standing, whether through Sullivan's contributions or other emerging players, beginning with their return against New York City FC this Sunday.
