Rival Club's Official Account Savagely Roasts Arsenal on Social Media in Brutal Takedown

Southampton's official TikTok account posted a video ridiculing Arsenal's failed pursuit of the Quadruple, accompanied by the cutting two-word caption: "Went well."

The Saints played a key role in that collapse with a well-earned 2–1 win over the Gunners in Saturday's FA Cup quarterfinal at St Mary's. Arsenal's previous match had been a Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City. In just two fixtures, Arsenal's trophy ambitions have been cut in half.

While Mikel Arteta's squad still sit nine points ahead of City at the top of the Premier League, that advantage could narrow to just three if Pep Guardiola's side win their game in hand and beat Arsenal at the Etihad on April 19. The league's perennial runners-up would then need to win five and draw one of their final six top-flight matches to secure a first Premier League title in 22 years.

Arsenal are still alive in the Champions League, with a quarterfinal against Sporting CP approaching. The north London club theoretically enjoy the most favorable route to the final, but their display against the seventh-placed side in England's second division suggests nothing comes easy for the Gunners at this point in the campaign.

Arteta was eager to acknowledge Tonda Eckert's Championship promotion contenders ahead of Saturday's match. "We're going to face a team that is in really strong form," the Arsenal manager cautioned, "they've won so many games lately, they're in a really good place." Yet not everyone shared that caution — as Southampton's social media team were quick to highlight.

Following their famous victory, the club's X account took aim at prominent Arsenal supporter Piers Morgan, who had described his side's draw against the second-tier outfit as a "great draw."

Southampton's TikTok account dug even deeper into the archives, sharing a clip of an Arsenal fan chasing the "quad" — the historic Quadruple of the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup. Those shattered dreams weren't confined to the terraces.

Arsenal center back William Saliba had publicly spoken about the Quadruple this season, while Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus remained unfazed by the Carabao Cup final defeat. The No. 9 declared he was "very confident" about winning the Premier League and said: "I believe 100% that this season we are doing something." Whether he still holds that view is another matter entirely.

What Next for Arsenal?

Arsenal players dejected

Arteta is not one to discuss tactical specifics publicly. Instead, he turned his attention to a mental reset for a squad of players in danger of buckling under the pressure of expectation once more.

"Giving [the players] clarity," was his priority for the days ahead, "even more conviction now, and trusting the players—believing in what we're doing, continuing to do that with the small adjustments that every game requires.

"But above all, keeping the spirit, the attitude and the energy at the highest possible level, because that's essential to performing at the standard we need to win games."

There will be little time for those mental preparation sessions. Arsenal travel to Lisbon for the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Sporting on Tuesday before welcoming Bournemouth in Saturday's lunchtime Premier League fixture. The reigning Portuguese champions then visit north London for the second leg in a week that culminates in a pivotal title showdown against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
