Roberto De Zerbi Breaks Silence On His Future If Tottenham Face Relegation

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi has made clear he intends to stay at the club even if they suffer relegation to the Championship on the final day of the 2025–26 Premier League season.

Spurs squandered the opportunity to virtually secure their top-flight status when they traveled to Chelsea on Tuesday evening, but they remain in control of their own fate when Everton come to N17 on Sunday afternoon.

A single point will be enough for the Lilywhites, unless West Ham United defeat Leeds United by 12 goals at the London Stadium. Such an outcome is almost certainly beyond the 'Spursy' realm. The Hammers must overcome Daniel Farke's resilient Whites to keep their hopes alive, having suffered consecutive defeats.

There's no understating just what a catastrophic embarrassment relegation would be for Spurs, one of the so-called 'Big Six'. The consequences would be far-reaching, though at least they'd have an exceptionally gifted manager steering the ship in the second division.

Roberto De Zerbi Reasserts Tottenham Commitment

Desperate following Igor Tudor's dismal 44-day spell that ended after a humbling 3–0 home loss to Nottingham Forest, Spurs handed De Zerbi a lucrative offer. The Italian, who left Marseille after 18 turbulent months in February, put pen to paper on a five-year deal, though many have questioned whether he would honor it if he failed to keep the Lilywhites in the top flight.

De Zerbi's influence has been clearly visible, with players finally responding and performances picking up. Spurs have importantly claimed two victories under his guidance, and there's a feeling that the Italian could forge something remarkable if they avoid the drop on the final day.

But should the worst-case scenario unfold across the capital, De Zerbi has reaffirmed his dedication to the club.

"Yes, I confirm everything," the Spurs boss stated, outlining his intentions. "For me, it's still an honor to be the coach of Tottenham, even if on Sunday we play in a relegation battle, it's not a problem.

"I see football as something greater than the table, than the level of the competition."

The project.

What's the Likelihood of Tottenham's Relegation on Final Day?

There won't be a single relaxed Spurs fan in attendance on Sunday afternoon, with a fatalistic support base bracing for the worst, particularly after the missed opportunity at Stamford Bridge in midweek.

Nevertheless, Opta would be surprised if De Zerbi's side go down, placing their relegation probability at just 13.62%. There are nine possible result combinations across north and east London, and only one would likely send the Lilywhites down.

A struggling Everton side with nothing to play for would need to win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while West Ham would also have to beat Leeds.
