Manchester United face an uphill battle in persuading either Aurélien Tchouaméni or Eduardo Camavinga to depart Real Madrid this summer, with both players reportedly committed to remaining at the Bernabéu.
The Red Devils had been eyeing both Real Madrid midfielders well before the summer transfer window began, but initially prioritized signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans following Casemiro's exit.
Michael Carrick remains in search of a defensive midfielder to bolster the engine room, and it comes as little surprise that Tchouaméni and Camavinga's names have resurfaced. However, despite recent reports boldly suggesting Real Madrid are open to selling Tchouaméni, a deal for the 26-year-old or his compatriot appears highly unlikely.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tchouaméni quietly penned a contract extension with Los Blancos several weeks ago. The club has yet to officially announce the renewal, but Romano stressed just how "important" the Frenchman is to new manager José Mourinho.
There is a "clear feeling" at the Bernabéu that Tchouaméni will be staying at Real Madrid.
Camavinga's Situation Is More Tenuous
With Tchouaméni seemingly out of reach, United may shift their attention to Camavinga. Unlike his fellow Frenchman, the 23-year-old does not hold a guaranteed spot in Los Blancos' starting lineup and is set to face another season battling for playing time, particularly after injuries and inconsistent form disrupted his 2025–26 campaign.
On the surface, Camavinga appears the more attainable option to lure away from the Spanish capital, yet he seems equally reluctant to leave. Romano reports the midfielder is intent on staying at Real Madrid and "reviving" his career in the famous white jersey.
Camavinga's representatives delivered that very message to United, underlining the player's wish to continue working under Mourinho.
"The only way to land Camavinga, whether it's Man Utd or any other club, is to get a green light from the player himself," Romano stressed.
How Rodri Can Help Man Utd Secure a Real Madrid Midfielder
Regardless of how committed Camavinga is to staying at Real Madrid, the situation could shift dramatically if club president Florentino Pérez moves to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri. The Spaniard, who has publicly hinted at interest in a Bernabéu move, has re-emerged on Los Blancos' radar after claiming the Golden Ball following a standout World Cup campaign with Spain.
Speculation linking the two parties continues to intensify, though reports of Rodri undergoing back surgery could give Real Madrid reason to hesitate.

Nevertheless, should the World Cup winner secure his dream transfer to Madrid, Camavinga may swiftly reconsider and seek a fresh start elsewhere. He is already facing a fight for minutes — and that's before factoring Rodri into the equation.
There's no certainty Camavinga would walk straight into the starting XI at Old Trafford either, though his left-footedness, ability to provide balance, and unique skill set would work in his favor. He would also benefit from ample playing opportunities given United's packed schedule in the upcoming season. Tchouaméni remains the more natural fit for Carrick's system, but his reported new contract at Real Madrid makes any transfer increasingly difficult to envision.
