Rodri Shocks Football World by Overlooking Rising Star Lamine Yamal, Backs Two Surprising Contenders for 2025 Ballon d'Or

Manchester City's midfield star Rodri has identified Paris Saint-Germain teammates Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha as his top picks for the Ballon d'Or award, suggesting they hold an advantage over Barcelona's young talent Lamine Yamal.
The Spanish midfielder claimed the prestigious award last year but finds himself out of contention this season due to a significant injury that has kept him off the pitch for most of the 2024–25 campaign, creating an opportunity for a fresh winner to be crowned this month.
In contrast to previous years when Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo dominated the competition, this year's Ballon d'Or contest seems wide open, with several players presenting compelling arguments for claiming football's most coveted individual honor.
According to Rodri, however, only PSG's Champions League-triumphant duo deserve serious consideration following their outstanding campaign.
"The Ballon d'Or is challenging," Rodri stated. "PSG has been the standout team this season, and it would be difficult not to award it to someone from their squad. I'm pleased for [the team's coach] Luis Enrique.
"I'd love to see it awarded to Lamine or Pedri, but based on sporting achievements, it should be Dembélé or Vitinha."

Dembélé seems to be the frontrunner after leading PSG's offensive charge. The French winger had an exceptional season, accumulating 35 goals and 16 assists in all competitions while successfully adapting to a central striking role after building his reputation as a wing threat.
Regarding Vitinha, the Portuguese playmaker contributed more subtly to his team's achievements, orchestrating play from deeper positions, while also guiding Portugal to Nations League success with his exceptional vision and passing ability.
Yamal is expected to receive significant support in the voting, having become Barcelona's key player at merely 18 years of age, though he may need to be patient before claiming his first Ballon d'Or trophy.
