Rodrygo Breaks Silence on Future Strategy Following Xabi Alonso Trust Crisis

Real Madrid's Rodrygo is adopting a straightforward stance regarding the challenging circumstances he faces at Real Madrid, stating that the sole method to earn Xabi Alonso's confidence is through "commitment and relentless effort."

When performing at his peak, Rodrygo ranks among the world's elite wingers. He has served as a crucial component in Real Madrid's most recent two Champions League victories and has accumulated nearly 300 matches for Los Blancos.

The issue lies in the fact that he hasn't displayed his optimal form for an extended period, and Xabi Alonso has assigned him to an inconsistent role throughout his inaugural campaign managing Madrid. Following Brazil's stalemate with Tunisia this week, Rodrygo expressed his perspective on his present circumstances with Los Blancos.

"There isn't much within my control," Rodrygo acknowledged, according to ESPN. "I must continue putting in effort, showing commitment and attempting to earn the confidence of the coach there [Alonso], similar to how I have the confidence of the coach here [Carlo Ancelotti]."

"That [Alonso's confidence] can only be earned through practice sessions. By continuing to develop, allowing him [Alonso] to witness my commitment, perhaps then I'll receive additional chances."

Rodrygo's International Displays Could Determine His Path Forward

From the beginning of the 2025–26 campaign, Rodrygo has accumulated an equal number of starting appearances for Brazil's national squad as he has with Real Madrid, reaching three for both team and nation. Additionally, his three goal contributions this season have come exclusively while representing Brazil.

Despite only two La Liga starting positions and 16 players logging more league time than him this season, Ancelotti, his previous club coach, is providing him opportunities to demonstrate his value with La Seleçao.

Rodrygo's difficulties at Real Madrid began while Ancelotti was still leading Los Blancos, leading to his name being frequently mentioned in transfer rumors last summer. The winger remained at the club and now his former Real Madrid coach is offering him substantial opportunities to regain his top performance level.

Throughout November's international fixtures, Rodrygo started both of Brazil's matches while wearing the iconic No.10 jersey. Unless an unexpected major situation arises, it's virtually certain he'll be included in La Seleçao's 2026 World Cup squad.

Should his problematic situation at Real Madrid persist, international appearances with Brazil will become crucial for the 24-year-old winger, who will probably face transfer speculation once more during upcoming transfer periods.
