Ronaldo Hits 100 Saudi Pro League Appearances: The Jaw-Dropping Stats Behind His Dominant Reign

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese football icon, reached a milestone of 100 Saudi Pro League (SPL) appearances on Friday in Al-Nassr's match against Al-Najma, having joined the league in early 2023. The veteran striker netted a brace in his 100th SPL outing, helping Al-Nassr cruise to a 5–2 win.

The 41-year-old attacker, currently pulling in a staggering $280 million annually at Al-Nassr, has shown few signs of decline, racking up 97 goals and 18 assists across those 100 outings on the pitch.

That said, Ronaldo is no longer in his prime, and the SPL's standard of play falls short of Europe's elite competitions. So how does his output over his first 100 games in Saudi Arabia stack up against what he delivered in other leagues during the same stretch of his career?

Here, Sports Illustrated breaks down the statistics.

Ronaldo's Success in Premier League, La Liga, Serie A

Cristiano Ronaldo, Rio Ferdinand

The five-time Ballon d'Or recipient dominated three of Europe's premier leagues before making his move to Saudi Arabia.

He burst onto the scene as a teenage sensation in the Premier League with Manchester United. Across six seasons (2003–09) in his first spell at the club, followed by a brief comeback (2021–23), Ronaldo amassed 103 goals and 47 assists in 236 total Premier League appearances, laying the foundation for his rise as football's all-time top scorer. He also claimed consecutive Premier League Player of the Season honors (2006–07, 2007–08), netting 31 goals in the latter campaign to guide Man Utd. to the league championship.

In his first 100 Premier League appearances, however, Ronaldo managed just 19 goals and 14 assists, per StatMuse—figures he would go on to far surpass in other leagues as his career was still in its early stages at that point.

Ronaldo, Madrid 2011-12

The football legend's most productive chapter came during his nine-year stint at Real Madrid (2009–18). He made 292 La Liga appearances, registering 311 goals and 95 assists in league competition, averaging better than a goal per game. He claimed back-to-back La Liga MVP honors in 2012–13 and 2013–14, combining for 65 league goals across those two seasons.

In his first 100 La Liga matches alone, Ronaldo struck 111 times, including 14 hat tricks, according to StatMuse—14 goals more than his SPL tally. Despite the comparatively lower level of his current league, it seems Ronaldo's age is beginning to take its toll.

Ronaldo remains Real Madrid's all-time top scorer, having netted 451 goals across all competitions for the Spanish giants.

Following his time in La Liga, Ronaldo moved to Serie A, representing Juventus from 2018–22. He came close to the 100-match threshold with 98 league appearances, scoring 81 goals and contributing 21 assists in Italy's top division. Ronaldo earned Serie A MVP honors for the 2018–19 season and was named Serie A Best Striker in 2020–21.

Ronaldo also enjoyed a remarkable UEFA Champions League career, setting a record with 140 goals and adding 50 assists across 183 appearances in Europe's most prestigious club tournament.
