Ruben Amorim Boldly Declares Man Utd's Championship Ambitions: "Everyone Knows" What We're Chasing in 2025-26

Ruben Amorim acknowledged that for a club with Manchester United's stature, success can only be measured by silverware, though he refrained from making any promises about when they might achieve such lofty expectations.
The candid Portuguese manager has adopted a more optimistic outlook during the summer months. Throughout what became United's most disappointing Premier League season on record, Amorim consistently criticized his squad, the organization overall, and particularly himself.
An encouraging pre-season bolstered by three promising new offensive signings and the departure of surplus players has brought a sense of measured hope to the 2025–26 season.
"Last year, I sometimes felt anxious before matches, but now I feel enthusiastic—it's completely transformed," Amorim expressed in a conversation with Sky Sports before his team's visit to Craven Cottage on Sunday. "We endured so much hardship together [last season] and that experience can unite people—the team spirit is excellent."

This positive environment, which has continued despite last weekend's defeat to Arsenal, has led many to question what would constitute a successful season for United. Following their drop to 15th position last campaign, Mason Mount has set his sights on European competition while Amad Diallo aims for a top-five placement. Amorim has different objectives.
"Success means winning trophies," the Portuguese manager stated, before quickly clarifying, "and we're uncertain whether we'll accomplish that. We're not at a stage where we can confidently say we're contending for the championship—we simply need to take incremental steps, and those steps involve preparing for each match as if it were a final.
"We aim to be truly competitive, attempting to control matches, seeking to find the net and ensuring our supporters aren't disinterested in watching our games... so if we master the fundamentals and consistently improve—ultimately, things will get better."
Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada has publicly set Premier League triumph as a target for 2028, something Amorim is fully conscious of. "I believe everyone understands we have an objective—not for this campaign but within three years to capture the Premier League championship," he observed.
"We will take the necessary steps to achieve that objective, but at this club, you understand that each week brings different storylines, so we must be ready for that, ignore the distractions, focus on our work and strive to secure victories."
