Ruben Amorim Exposes Man Utd's Fatal Flaws: "We Worked on That" Confession Reveals Team's Shocking Mistakes
Ruben Amorim acknowledged that Manchester United had practiced defending against aerial through balls during training sessions—yet witnessed his team surrender two goals from identical situations in their 3–1 loss to Brentford.
The majority of pre-match discussion surrounding Saturday's early kickoff centered on United's inability to secure consecutive Premier League victories since Amorim took charge in November. Within 20 minutes at the Gtech Community Stadium, it became evident this winless streak would persist.
Igor Thiago capitalized on remarkably poor United defending. Initially, he benefited from Harry Maguire's unsuccessful offside trap execution, then Matthijs de Ligt was exposed after losing his bearings under a high ball forward.
Benjamin Šeško's maiden United strike hinted at a potential comeback for the Red Devils, but Bruno Fernandes' second-half penalty miss drained the energy from Amorim's squad. Mathias Jensen delivered the decisive blow during injury time—his curling effort flew past Altay Bayındır, who could arguably have performed better between the posts, sealing United's 3–1 defeat.
Amorim: It's Tough to Lose Again

"Losing at this football club always feels identical—it's extremely painful," Amorim commented post-match. "We must focus on our upcoming fixture.
"Naturally we aimed for victory. We failed to dictate the match tempo. We participated in Brentford's style of play. Direct balls, loose balls, dead-ball situations. Every pivotal moment went against us. Another defeat stings, but we must concentrate on what's ahead.
"Their opening goal came from an aerial pass. We had drilled this scenario during the week, along with set-piece defending. We anticipated these long passes and with one touch they created their chance. Our performance must improve.
"We abandoned our playing philosophy. We only dominated briefly at certain intervals. Everything remained largely unchanged. We must implement our tactical approach rather than adapting to our opponents', yet they proved superior in that aspect."
This result leaves United with merely two victories from their opening six fixtures this campaign, with a humiliating elimination by League Two contenders Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup compounding Amorim's frustrations.
Brentford, conversely, have overtaken United in the Premier League standings—with Thiago now sitting second only to Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot competition.
