Ruben Amorim Reveals Key Man Utd Star Set for Comeback That Will "Give That Edge"

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has revealed that Lisandro Martínez is back in training, though the upcoming match against Nottingham Forest comes too early for the adaptable defender's return.

The Argentine star suffered a devastating ACL tear in February and has been absent from United's previous 33 matches in all competitions. However, encouraging medical assessments have left United supporters excitedly awaiting his comeback.

Amorim revealed during his recent press briefing that Martínez was eager to feature against Forest this Saturday, but the club's medical team has stepped in to prevent any undue risks with the 27-year-old.

"He's eager to participate in this [match], but he won't be involved in this one, he needs more time," Amorim explained to the media. "He's begun training with the squad but we've had to modify certain exercises for him, so gradually he'll improve.

"He's in excellent shape, really excellent, and he brings that intensity to every training session which is tremendously beneficial for us."

Maguire Remains Doubtful After Training Injury

United are experiencing a favorable spell regarding injuries. In fact, Martínez's return to training means every squad member is participating in some form of preparation ahead of Saturday's clash with Forest.

Martínez will continue observing from the bench and may be accompanied by fellow center-back Harry Maguire after Amorim confessed uncertainty about whether the England international would recover from the training ground setback that sidelined him from last weekend's victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The specifics of Maguire's injury remain unclear. Amorim initially characterized it as a "knock" that was "not serious," but he risks missing a second straight match for the Red Devils after the Portuguese manager stated he "wasn't sure" if the Englishman would be available.

United enter the weekend positioned sixth in the Premier League standings but could finish this round of matches as high as second place, with only a two-point deficit separating them from Andoni Iraola's impressive Bournemouth side.
