Ruben Amorim Spills Details on High-Stakes Talks With Man Utd Bosses: "More Pressure" Behind Closed Doors
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has downplayed the importance of his recent discussion with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, even making light of the situation by suggesting he was presented with a contract extension at Old Trafford.
Currently holding the poorest win rate of any United manager since the Second World War, Amorim faces mounting pressure to reverse the club's fortunes. He has recently committed to persisting with his existing tactical approach, cautioning club leadership that dismissal would be necessary if they desire alternative methods.
Fueling further conjecture was Thursday's discussion with Ratcliffe. The United co-owner's visit is believed to have been scheduled far in advance, rather than being a reactive response to the recent loss against Manchester City, though the team's disappointing displays were discussed between them.
When pressed for specific information about their conversation, a cheerful Amorim quipped: "New contract, he was offering me a new contract."
He elaborated: "No, it's normal things, just to show the support, explaining that it's a long project. He said many times, 'This is my third season.' For me, it's not. But normal things.

"I spoke with him, with Omar [Berrrada, CEO], with Jason [Wilcox, director of football], just trying to see all the data around the team. So, a normal meeting, and we had several, but in this moment, it's normal that people pay attention to that."
Amorim proceeded to recognize the distinctive aspects of managing United, emphasizing that the intensity of pressure accompanying this role is unmatched anywhere else in global football.
"This is football and this is the club with more pressure, maybe, than any in the world, but we want to win," he emphasized.
"Last year I was very critical of the way we played. I think we are playing well until the boxes, defending and attacking. We need to be more aggressive in the boxes. We need to be more clinical. The rest I think we are improving compared to last year. We are in a better place.
"But we need to win. We lost against Arsenal and Man City. Here, losing, especially in the beginning after last season, is a problem."
