Ruben Amorim Targets Dynamic Goalkeeper to Replace Andre Onana at Man Utd

Ruben Amorim has requested that Manchester United pursue Porto's goalkeeper Diogo Costa during the upcoming summer transfer window as he looks to find a successor for André Onana.

The previous campaign proved challenging for Onana once again, as the goalkeeper committed four mistakes that directly resulted in goals within Premier League matches and failed to demonstrate convincing performances in both shot-stopping and ball distribution. His backup, Altay Bayındır, also couldn't provide the necessary confidence.

Consequently, Manchester United is reportedly investigating goalkeeper options for the summer transfer period, with previous speculation linking them to Aston Villa's Emiliano Martínez.

Nevertheless, Portuguese publication A Bola has disclosed that Amorim has "requested the club's management" to pursue and acquire a seasoned goalkeeper such as Porto's Costa, who will reach 26 years of age in September.

Although Costa's contract includes a €75 million (£63.9 million, $87.9 million) buyout clause, Porto is anticipated to permit his departure for approximately €60 million (£51.1 million, $70.3 million).

The Portuguese national team player, who impressed during Euro 2024 last summer, desires to depart from Porto and reportedly favors joining a Premier League club. Costa is also eager to "enhance his financial circumstances" and understands Manchester United's capacity to offer substantial salaries.

Manchester City and Chelsea are also mentioned among the English powerhouses showing interest in Costa's abilities, with City particularly expected to secure Ederson's long-term successor soon.

Costa would undoubtedly represent an improvement over Monaco-target Onana, but whether the Red Devils are prepared to invest heavily in the Portuguese goalkeeper remains uncertain, particularly considering their recent expenditure on Matheus Cunha this summer and their pursuit of a costly deal for Bryan Mbeumo.
