Ryan Reynolds Breaks Silence on Wrexham's Playoff Agony: 'Completely Gutted' After Historic Season Ends in Heartbreak

Ryan Reynolds has confessed he was "completely gutted" following Wrexham's failure to secure a spot in the EFL Championship playoffs, though he remained "incredibly proud" of the club's accomplishments throughout the campaign.

The Red Dragons ended up seventh in the English second tier after a 2–2 stalemate against Middlesbrough on the Championship's final day. The result left them two points adrift of the playoff places and a potential shot at Premier League promotion.

Phil Parkinson's men knew heading into the final day that no single result could guarantee them a playoff berth, with Hull City and Derby County also competing for sixth place. Wrexham were held by fifth-placed Middlesbrough, while Hull beat Norwich to claim the last playoff spot on a day that also saw Derby fall to Sheffield United.

Despite falling short at the final hurdle, Wrexham recorded the highest league finish in the club's 162-year existence. They also advanced to the FA Cup fifth round for the first time since 1997 and the League Cup fourth round for the first time since 1978 — providing a strong platform to build from heading into next season.

Ryan Reynolds Reacts to Playoff Heartbreak

I am completely gutted by today's result but incredibly proud of our season. We've come a long way in five years and this was the best result in our 150+ year history. More to do. But for now, we have so much to be proud of, Reds. pic.twitter.com/qPQywrC0mA

Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were absent as Wrexham drew with Middlesbrough on the final day of the Championship season. The Hollywood pair have overseen a stunning rise since acquiring the Welsh club in February 2021, guiding them to three consecutive promotions under manager Phil Parkinson.

Wrexham were unable to extend that extraordinary run to a fourth straight promotion, yet they still surpassed the expectations of many in their first Championship season in 43 years.

Shortly after the final-day draw, Reynolds took to social media to share a graphic illustrating how far Wrexham have come since the takeover, encouraging supporters to reflect on and appreciate the journey so far.

"I am completely gutted by today's result but incredibly proud of our season," he wrote. "We've come a long way in five years, and this was the best result in our 150+ year history.

"More to do. But for now, we have so much to be proud of, Reds."
