Salah and Robertson Say Goodbye: Liverpool's Emotional Starting XI Revealed for Brentford Clash

Liverpool wrap up a grueling Premier League season by welcoming Brentford to Anfield on Sunday.

A disappointing title defense has left fans enduring a tough campaign, but the consolation of Champions League qualification looks set to be secured this weekend. The Reds need nothing more than a win or a draw against Brentford to confirm their spot in Europe's top club competition, and even a defeat is unlikely to give chasers Bournemouth enough to overtake them.

Locking down a top-five finish is the main objective, but Liverpool will also be eager to give a fitting farewell to club icons Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson. The pair are among three expected changes to Arne Slot's starting XI following the loss to Aston Villa in their previous outing.

Salah and Robertson have combined for 818 appearances across remarkable nine-year stints at Liverpool, and both will receive a heartfelt send-off from the Anfield faithful this weekend. The duo are set to be restored to the starting lineup after being named on the bench at Villa Park.

Florian Wirtz is also expected to return to the XI, while Alexander Isak and Alisson are pushing for involvement after resuming training on Friday following their respective injury layoffs. Jeremie Frimpong is anticipated to recover from the knock that ruled him out against Villa.

Long-term injury absentees Wataru Endo, Hugo Ekitiké, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni will not feature in a final appearance for the club this season.

Liverpool Predicted Lineup vs. Aston Villa

Liverpool predicted lineup

GK: Giorgi Mamardashvili—Alisson's prolonged absence throughout the campaign has thrust Mamardashvili into the spotlight. The Georgian has experienced a mixed debut season for the Reds as a consequence.

RB: Joe Gomez—Liverpool's right back position has been a persistent problem, largely due to injury issues. Gomez could get the nod on Sunday to deal with the pace of Kevin Schade, despite a poor showing at Villa.

CB: Ibrahima Konaté—Could this be Konaté's last outing in a Liverpool shirt? That remains a real possibility amid an ongoing contract dispute between the Frenchman and the club.

CB: Virgil van Dijk—No Liverpool player has featured more than the 34-year-old captain this season, with Van Dijk having been heavily relied upon due to poor squad depth and a string of injuries.

LB: Andy Robertson—Robertson will make his 378th and final appearance for Liverpool on Sunday. The Scotsman has been integral to the club's extraordinary rise over the last decade and is deserving of a memorable farewell.

CM: Ryan Gravenberch—Gravenberch's form has dipped this season, though Liverpool's excessive dependence on the Dutchman has been a significant factor. He will require greater support in the holding midfield role next campaign.

CM: Dominik Szoboszlai—Liverpool's standout performer of the season has contributed a team-leading 25 goal involvements, giving him plenty to be proud of despite the club's underwhelming year overall.

RW: Mohamed Salah—441 appearances, 257 goals, 122 assists and nine trophies later, Salah finally says goodbye to Liverpool. Very few players have left as profound a mark on the Reds in the club's 134-year history.

AM: Florian Wirtz—Wirtz will be glad to draw a line under a difficult debut season in which he has fallen short of expectations. A productive World Cup could provide the confidence boost he needs to shine for Liverpool in 2026–27.

LW: Rio Ngumoha—Liverpool fans can expect to see a great deal more of Ngumoha next season, with the teenager having been one of the club's rare bright spots. He has accumulated an impressive 28 appearances this term.

ST: Cody Gakpo—Much like Wirtz, the Dutchman will be hoping a strong World Cup can reignite his confidence heading into next season. Gakpo has simply not delivered at the required level over the past year.
