Mohamed Salah appears to be drawing closer to a transfer to Turkish Süper Lig side Beşiktaş, with the player's representatives reportedly traveling to Istanbul for negotiations.
The 34-year-old departed Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2025–26 season following a mutual decision to terminate the remaining year of his contract, which would have kept him at Merseyside through the summer of 2027.
Salah, who holds the record as the Premier League's all-time leading scorer among players born outside England with 193 goals, endured a difficult final year at Liverpool. After claiming the 2024–25 Premier League title in remarkable style, posting a record 47 goal contributions, Salah and Liverpool suffered a sharp decline the following campaign, with the club ultimately finishing in fifth place.
In March, the Egyptian international confirmed his decision to depart Anfield after nine years with the club.

Clubs from Saudi Arabia, MLS, and Europe have all been touted as potential destinations for the three-time Premier League Golden Boot recipient. Nevertheless, Turkish powerhouse Beşiktaş appears to be edging toward securing a deal.
Journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reports that Beşiktaş has submitted a "first offer" to Salah, who initially sought an annual salary of €15 million ($17 million), but has since "reduced his salary demands" to facilitate a transfer.
He further notes that the player's legal representative has touched down in Istanbul.
This report comes on the heels of social media activity from Salah's vocal agent Ramy Abbas Issa, who posted on Friday: "We still do not know where Mohamed will play next season but we may know very soon."
A follow-up post then read: "It is not our style to have discussions with clubs that Mohamed wouldn't want to play for, just for the sake of noise."
Salah's Global Appeal
Heading into the summer, the Saudi Pro League had been widely considered the most probable landing spot for Salah, having previously identified him as a primary target.
During the league's peak growth phase a few years back, Salah was regarded as a prized acquisition for state-backed Saudi clubs, owing to his status as football's most prominent Arab player. A £150 million ($200 million) approach from Al Ittihad was firmly rejected by Liverpool in 2023—the same summer both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho made their moves from Anfield to Saudi Arabia.
In 2025, Salah revealed he had engaged in serious discussions with Pro League officials before ultimately agreeing to a lucrative contract extension at Liverpool.

"It was a good opportunity for me; if I hadn't renewed with Liverpool, it would have happened," he said. "My relationship with SPL officials is very good — we spoke at length and the negotiations were genuine."
However, as Salah became available as a free agent, other interested parties have emerged, among them MLS club Sporting Kansas City, whose majority owner Peter Mallouk has Egyptian heritage.
