Saudi Pro League Star Issues Fierce Transfer Warning to Lionel Messi: "Expect a Lot of Hits"

Al Ahli striker Riyad Mahrez cautioned that Lionel Messi could face aggressive challenges from Saudi Pro League defenders if he decides to join the Kingdom, amid growing speculation about this potential transfer in recent days.

Messi's prospects at Miami have become a topic of intense discussion since he entered the last year of his South Beach contract. The Argentine superstar's profitable agreement concludes in December, with no new deal finalized despite multiple statements from club officials.

Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas adopted a more reserved stance following Messi's MLS suspension for skipping the All-Star Game. "He's deeply frustrated, incredibly frustrated today, which is understandable," Mas expressed concern.

"I hope this won't affect things long-term. Will it initially impact how players view league regulations? Without question, yes."

Current Asian champions Al Ahli are among the teams rumored to pursue the eight-time Ballon d'Or recipient. Mahrez, who departed Manchester City for Jeddah in 2023, cautioned that Messi wouldn't receive preferential treatment in the Middle East. "Skillful players get no special safeguards in the Saudi league," the Algerian international shared with CARRÉ recently. "I've endured plenty of hard tackles."

However, Mahrez expressed clear enthusiasm about potentially welcoming his football hero. "It represents our boyhood fantasy," the 34-year-old enthused when discussing the possibility of partnering with Messi.

"As professional players, we've studied him extensively; he's our inspiration. Playing alongside him would be absolutely incredible. Envisioning our collaboration, with him operating as a playmaker and me on the wing, occasionally switching positions, would be fantastic."

Como have conveniently eliminated themselves from Messi pursuit discussions, yet speculation about his anticipated Saudi Pro League debut continues building momentum. Already serving as a Saudi Arabia tourism representative, Messi seemed close to joining Cristiano Ronaldo in the Pro League before choosing Miami in 2023. Two years later, that legendary rivalry might still materialize.
