Sean Dyche Fires Back With Excitement Over Tottenham Manager Speculation

Sean Dyche Fires Back With Excitement Over Tottenham Manager Speculation

In his characteristically candid manner, Sean Dyche dismissed reports linking him to the managerial vacancy at Tottenham Hotspur, describing the widespread speculation as "brilliant" yet entirely baseless.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint their third manager of a turbulent 2025–26 campaign in rapid succession, with Tudor expected to be relieved of his duties next week following the recent death of his father, Mario.

Tudor has presided over four losses and one draw across five Premier League matches, leaving Spurs sitting 17th in the standings and just a single point above the relegation zone. The threat of dropping down a division is no longer something fans can brush aside — it has become a very real and alarming possibility.

There had been glimpses of Tudor coaxing something out of a struggling squad, with a 3–2 win against Atlético Madrid giving the Lilywhites a boost heading into their crucial six-pointer against Nottingham Forest. Yet the 3–0 loss that followed effectively sealed Tudor's fate, even as Spurs remain uncertain about which direction to take next.

An unpopular board has weighed the option of accelerating their next long-term managerial appointment, while fans have called for a familiar face to lead the club's survival bid. The Telegraph reported that Dyche is among those being considered — though the man himself appears to disagree.

"It's brilliant, honestly," Dyche said when quizzed during a talkSPORT appearance about the rumors connecting him to the Tottenham vacancy.

Chatter spread across social media over the weekend after photos and videos of Dyche spotted around London began circulating. "I was in a pub just up the way near my place I've got down here and this guy goes, 'Oh, you're meant to be in talks with Spurs tonight.'

"I went, 'Well, I'm sat next to you having a pint of Guinness, so it's unlikely.' I said, 'Unless you work for Spurs and they're in the Seven Stars pub having a pint of Guinness.' I said, 'It's highly unlikely.'

"No I'm not, I'm with you mate and I'm on talkSPORT, that's what I'm doing."

The prospect of turning to Dyche — who kept Everton in the top flight in 2022–23 before being dismissed by Nottingham Forest — underscores just how precarious Spurs' situation is and how rudderless their board appears to be. The Tudor experiment has failed, and the club is now scrambling for answers.

Tottenham's 'Preferred Candidate' Is Hesitant

Roberto De Zerbi

While many fans continue to dream of a Mauricio Pochettino return to oversee the "painful rebuild" he alluded to back in 2019, the current U.S. men's national team manager won't be free until after the World Cup concludes.

That said, a Pochettino homecoming this summer may be off the table if Spurs can land their top target to succeed Tudor. Tottenham are working to convince former Marseille and Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi — despite resistance from some supporters — but the Italian is reportedly insisting he will not commit to any position until the end of the current season, per Sky Italia.

De Zerbi's reluctance makes a move for Dyche more plausible, though former Monaco boss Adi Hütter has also emerged as a candidate for the role.

Further clarity is expected once Tottenham officially part ways with Tudor, which reports suggest could happen as early as Monday.
