Semenyo Strikes Gold: Man City Star Cranks Up Heat on Arsenal in Thrilling Title Chase
Manchester City narrowed the distance to Premier League frontrunners Arsenal to merely two points following Saturday's 1–0 victory against Leeds United at Elland Road.
Both clubs have completed an identical number of matches (28), though the Gunners will be back in action on Sunday when they welcome Chelsea in a London derby.
Pep Guardiola's squad had to endure an early onslaught from a Leeds team playing with energy and determination to press aggressively up the field. This resulted in all the initial opportunities falling to the hosts, including a pair of chances for Dominic Calvert-Lewin that sailed just off target.
City established more control around the thirty-minute mark, before Antoine Semenyo gave them the lead just before halftime. Leeds were never realistically going to maintain the same intensity for a prolonged period, so following the goal it never appeared there would be any different result.
City effectively neutralized the match in the second period and a phase of late Leeds pressure was more theoretical than genuinely dangerous.
One Thing We Can't Ignore
One Thing We Can't Ignore

Erling who?
Antoine Semenyo is demonstrating precisely the winter acquisition Manchester City required and desired. There was an obvious over-dependence on Haaland—who was admittedly in scorching form—during the early months of the campaign, but Semenyo is already succeeding in distributing the scoring responsibility more evenly.
For the Ghana striker, it's four Premier League strikes since his January arrival—and six in total across all tournaments wearing a City jersey.
The predatory finish just before the interval, after City had been outplayed for significant portions of the opening half, was reminiscent of Haaland. Perhaps more significantly, it occurred in a match where the Norwegian was missing, believed to be a tactical decision to help him manage a knee concern.
