Serie A Giants Launch Bold £20 Million Raid for Manchester United's Jadon Sancho

AS Roma has joined the race for Jadon Sancho's signature, becoming the latest club to pursue the Manchester United winger who finds himself on the periphery at Old Trafford.
The Italian side has submitted a proposal worth £20 million ($27 million) structured as an initial loan with a mandatory purchase clause for the following summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. While Sancho has shown interest in the move and remains open to discussions, Manchester United must still give their approval to the arrangement.
The 25-year-old spent the previous campaign on loan at Chelsea under similar terms that included a buy obligation, though the London club opted to pay a penalty fee rather than complete the permanent transfer, leaving Sancho's situation unresolved upon his return to Manchester. Like Marcus Rashford, who has since joined Barcelona on loan, and Alejandro Garnacho, Sancho finds himself surplus to requirements at United.
Romano indicates that the winger currently has no desire to move to Turkey, despite Beşiktaş publicly declaring their interest and generating significant excitement among their fanbase. Sancho's recent Instagram activity attracted over 5.5 million comments, with countless supporters urging him to "Come to Beşiktaş," though the player appears to have other preferences.
During his Chelsea stint last season, Sancho featured in 31 Premier League matches, netting three goals and providing five assists. His initial impact was promising with four assists in his opening three appearances, but his form became inconsistent thereafter. He also participated in eight UEFA Conference League fixtures, including the final that Chelsea successfully claimed.
Since joining United in 2021, Sancho has accumulated 58 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils, managing only nine goals and six assists. A loan spell back at Borussia Dortmund in 2023-24 also failed to reignite the form he showed as a breakthrough teenager at the German club.
Though various managers have found it challenging to unlock Sancho's potential, he appears particularly ill-suited to Ruben Amorim's tactical approach.
The Portuguese manager favors a 3-4-2-1 formation featuring two attacking midfielders supporting a central striker, with wing-backs providing width in the final third. Given Sancho's profile as a traditional creative winger, he doesn't align with this system, explaining Amorim's willingness to sanction his departure.
