Serie A Giants Submit Official Offer to Land USMNT Star Gio Reyna

United States men's national team midfielder Gio Reyna appears set to depart Borussia Dortmund, with a potential transfer to Serie A emerging as a possibility.

Although Reyna rapidly progressed through Dortmund's system during his teenage years, his development has stagnated in recent campaigns. Despite experiencing success in the UEFA Champions League and contributing to the USMNT, his value has declined to where he faces difficulties obtaining regular minutes with the German powerhouse.

Throughout the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons, Reyna featured in only 49 matches, netting twice. He also encountered limited opportunities during a six-month loan spell at Premier League club Nottingham Forest. By the conclusion of the 2024–25 campaign with the FIFA Club World Cup, Reyna had accumulated merely 627 minutes of action and made minimal influence.

Seeking increased playing opportunities, Reyna may head to Serie A. The 22-year-old received a "formal offer" from Parma over the weekend, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano additionally verified MLS insider Tom Bogert's information that connections with LAFC were inactive. The team that earned promotion in 2024 and barely avoided relegation to Serie B with a 16th-place standing in 2024–25 are reportedly prepared to offer up to €6 million ($7 million), with "official discussions" already in progress.

At Parma, Reyna might discover a chance to regain his excellence while staying within one of Europe's premier five leagues. Simultaneously, the club is currently under American ownership by Kyle Krause, and recently named former Arsenal assistant manager Carlos Cuesta as Europe's youngest head coach at only 29.

Furthermore, a transfer to Serie A would place him alongside fellow Americans Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Yunus Musah, Tim Weah, and Gianluca Busio, while providing an opportunity to emerge as a key player with an ambitious and historic franchise.

Parma are scheduled to begin their 2025–25 Serie A season on Aug. 26, when they face Juventus and that team's new North American acquisition, Canadian Jonathan David.
