Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho could be the latest Premier League player heading to Serie A, with Roma reportedly tabling a €5 million (£4.3 million, $5.7 million) loan offer for the Argentine.
In true Chelsea style, the summer transfer window has been a constant flow of arrivals and departures as the club attempts to recover from a turbulent 2025–26 campaign. Garnacho, who signed a seven-year contract with the Blues upon his arrival from Manchester United last summer, is among those who don't feature in Xabi Alonso's plans.
Roma are searching for a wide player and have handed Garnacho a potential lifeline out of west London. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Serie A club put forward a season-long loan worth €5 million, with a €35 million ($40 million, £29.9 million) purchase option that would turn obligatory if specific conditions are fulfilled.
Garnacho's Value Has Taken a Hit Following Chelsea Struggles

The purchase option being offered by Roma falls short of what Chelsea had in mind, given the club paid £40 million ($53 million) to bring Garnacho in, but they will likely find it difficult to attract a club willing to spend that amount on a forward who managed just eight goals throughout 2025–26.
Garnacho made 43 appearances during his first season with the Blues, yet struggled to cement a regular starting spot following a string of inconsistent and underwhelming displays. Across 24 Premier League outings, 14 of which came from the start, he contributed just one goal and four assists.
The majority of his contributions came in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, where he netted six of his eight goals for the season. However, four of those came against Cardiff City, Port Vale, and Wrexham. The remaining two arrived in an impressive substitute appearance against Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinals, though he was unable to build on that showing.
As the season drew to a close, caretaker manager Calum McFarlane gave Garnacho just five minutes of action across Chelsea's final three matches. Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni, meanwhile, opted to leave the 22-year-old out of his squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Alonso Opens the Exit Door for Garnacho

Any aspirations Garnacho had of bouncing back and making an impact in his second season were effectively ended when new head coach Alonso confirmed the player is available for transfer.
"We have spoken with the sporting directors, and there is interest [in] him from other clubs, so let's see how it develops," Alonso said when addressing Garnacho's future. "Hopefully it finishes in the best possible way for all parties."

By contrast, Alonso has made clear he wants Enzo Fernández to remain at Stamford Bridge, despite the midfielder's prior interest in moving on, with Real Madrid among his reported suitors.
A fresh start elsewhere appears to be in Garnacho's best interest as he looks to rediscover the form that once made him one of United's most exciting young talents. He will be hoping to follow a similar trajectory to former teammate Rasmus Højlund, who earned a permanent transfer to Napoli on the back of a fruitful loan spell last season.
