Benjamin Šeško has issued an apology to Slovenian supporters after withdrawing from his country's upcoming international matches, stating that his top priority was remaining at Manchester United and concentrating on his rehabilitation.
The tall striker can hardly be held responsible for his injury setback, though he did invite misfortune. "It's healed," he confidently told anyone willing to hear when speaking about a troublesome shin complaint that had cut short his first season at Old Trafford. "So it's perfect."
Just days later, Šeško found himself back in the medical room dealing with the very same problem.
The Slovenian international sat out United's uninspiring draw against Fulham on Sunday and has been compelled to withdraw from his country's games during this lengthy international window. United issued a statement confirming their striker will "undergo tests" this week, while The Athletic has cautioned that a "period of rest" could be necessary even after club football resumes.
"I am very sorry that I will have to miss the national team's upcoming matches," Šeško posted on Instagram. "I have always played for Slovenia—and always will—with heart and pride. Right now, the most important thing is to focus fully on my recovery. I am already working on getting back on the pitch as soon as possible to help both the national team and my club once again."

Šeško is partly a victim of his own intense drive. The forward has been managing a persistent shin problem dating back to last spring, an issue that was worsened by his determination to keep playing through it. "I got a kick last season, but it was also a little bit of an overload from myself," he recently acknowledged.
That relentless attitude is a core part of who Šeško is. The dedicated striker would show up 90 minutes before any of his teammates and remain at United's training facility long after everyone else had departed. It even tested Ruben Amorim's patience. "I'm relaxed," the Portuguese manager remarked during Šeško's first season. "[But] he's not relaxed."
That mentality made a rest-focused summer recovery particularly difficult for him. "We just need a little bit longer, longer than usual, because if you start too early, it might appear again," Šeško explained. "And I think waiting a little bit longer was a great decision."
Yet this early-stage relapse following his return may indicate that Šeško's recovery period was still not quite long enough.

Until the tests have been completed, pinpointing a return date for Šeško remains impossible. The three-week international break should help the 23-year-old limit the number of games he misses, though there is a genuine chance he may not be fit when United host Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, Oct. 10.
"We're not sure with Ben yet," Carrick said after Sunday's goalless affair with Fulham. "He felt a bit of pain after the game [against Brighton] so we're assessing him. At the moment, he definitely wasn't ready for [Fulham], so I haven't really got any more news to give you at this point. We'll have to see what that brings."
