Seven Rising Stars Set to Explode onto the Premier League Stage in 2026–27

The Premier League already boasts a wealth of elite talent, yet there are numerous players eager to elevate their game to the highest level.

The previous year saw the rise of players such as Igor Thiago, Junior Kroupi and Rayan, and the line behind them continues to grow as players throughout the league aim to become recognizable names over the coming year.

Here are seven players deserving of your close attention this season.

Brian Madjo (Aston Villa)

Brian Madjo

Let's begin with the most obvious choice. The 17-year-old towering Aston Villa striker Brian Madjo has the football world buzzing following his goal-scoring display in the Super Cup loss against Paris Saint-Germain.

Villa forked out approximately $14 million (£10 million) to acquire Madjo in January and willingly fought through a prolonged legal dispute to confirm his eligibility to transfer from France to England at such a young age. The Villans prevailed and lost no time showcasing what Madjo brings to the table.

A 6'4" powerhouse with unexpected nimbleness, Madjo appears perfectly suited to the English game. He can anticipate regular playing time this season, especially with uncertainty surrounding Ollie Watkins's future at Villa, and could realistically position himself as Harry Kane's backup in the England setup if circumstances fall into place.

Johan Manzambi (Aston Villa)

Johan Manzambi

Can someone with an ~$80 million price tag still be considered a breakout star? Regardless, Johan Manzambi will be aiming to transition from promising youngster to recognized name following his own arrival at Villa Park.

Manzambi, 20, is a quintessential modern playmaker who blends physicality, athleticism and technical ability. He hinted at a breakthrough campaign last year with Freiburg, contributing seven goals and nine assists, before an outstanding World Cup with Switzerland earned him a lucrative move to the Premier League.

He'll be under considerable pressure to justify that fee, but there are strong reasons to believe Manzambi can fulfill his potential as soon as this season. Given the current turbulence at Villa, they desperately need him to deliver.

Bazoumana Touré (Newcastle United)

Bazoumana Touré

Newcastle United had targeted Manzambi but ultimately settled for another Bundesliga standout, bringing him to St James' Park for approximately $57 million.

The 20-year-old had been floated as a possible successor to Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, but requires a genuine breakout campaign before being worthy of such a role. The blistering winger laid the groundwork last season with Hoffenheim, demonstrating a sharp eye for assists as he tallied 12 in 30 appearances.

Things aren't particularly rosy at Newcastle this summer, with key departures and manager Eddie Howe's exit ushering in a new chapter. Touré will be hoping to become the centerpiece of this next phase for the Magpies.

Mamadou Sangaré (Brentford)

Mamadou Sangaré

When Brentford sign a player, you can generally count on him being quality. The Bees' analytics-led recruitment strategy led them straight to Lens to secure 24-year-old Malian midfielder Mamadou Sangaré this summer.

Lens may not command a global following, and it was easy to overlook the fact they claimed the Coupe de France and finished runners-up in Ligue 1 last season. That achievement was shaped by several factors, but among the most significant was the decision to bring Sangaré in from Rapid Wien a year ago.

Sangaré has drawn comparisons to N'Golo Kanté for his energetic, box-to-box style of dominating midfield, and it wouldn't be surprising to see Champions League giants attempting to splash nine-figure fees on him next summer.

Hayden Hackney (Everton)

Clubs have shown a growing willingness to recruit from England's second tier in recent seasons. Crystal Palace blazed the trail by giving opportunities to Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Adam Wharton, and Everton will be hoping midfielder Hayden Hackney follows a comparable path.

Having just celebrated his 24th birthday this summer, Hackney could have been forgiven for doubting whether a Premier League move would ever materialize, but he earned his transfer through a string of standout seasons at Middlesbrough, where his qualities as a ball-playing midfielder were put on full display.

Comparisons to Arsenal's Declan Rice may be slightly premature, but Wharton and Manchester City's Elliot Anderson are two players cast in a similar mold to Hackney. He is another who could easily find himself on the move again within 12 months if things go according to plan.

Ousmane Diomande (Nottingham Forest)

Ousmane Diomande

You've likely come across Ousmane Diomande's name through years of transfer speculation linking him to virtually every major club in the world. Those who previously passed on the 22-year-old may come to regret it.

It was Nottingham Forest who succeeded in prising Diomande away from Sporting CP, securing the archetypal modern center back. He uses his 6'3" frame to impose himself on attackers but is equally comfortable in a foot race or playing his way out of pressure — a trait evident since he joined Sporting in January 2023.

With Murillo and Nikola Milenković alongside him, Forest have every reason to believe they may have assembled one of the Premier League's finest defensive units.

Luka Vuskovic (Brighton)

Remaining with center backs, Luka Vušković is now set to bring his impressive form from Hamburg to the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Brighton jumped at the opportunity to pry the 19-year-old away from Tottenham Hotspur following the sale of Jan Paul van Hecke, landing a player broadly regarded as perhaps the finest young center back in Europe.

Few clubs develop players as effectively as Brighton, who will immediately draw on Vušković's remarkable combination of defending, distribution and goal-scoring — he netted six times last season on loan in the Bundesliga — as they continue their mission to challenge the Premier League's elite. This is precisely the kind of signing that can fuel that ambition.
