Shock Goalkeeper Candidate Opens Door to Man Utd Switch as Martinez Rumors Swirl

As Manchester United continues their quest to strengthen their goalkeeping position, Belgian shot-stopper Senne Lammens has shared his thoughts on a possible transfer to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have been actively seeking reinforcements throughout the summer transfer window following a disappointing 2024–25 campaign. Manchester United have already secured the signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, while remaining in pursuit of a striker and a goalkeeper.
It's well-documented that Emiliano Martínez tops the English club's wishlist as a replacement for André Onana, who endured several costly errors during the previous season. However, Manchester United and Aston Villa remain distant from reaching an agreement for the Argentine keeper.
Lammens has surfaced as a potential alternative target for Manchester United to consider. The 23-year-old, currently with Belgian side Royal Antwerp, discussed the possibility of a major transfer in an interview with Belgian publication Gazet van Antwerpen.
"Manchester United represents one of the elite clubs, absolutely. However, nothing is certain. It might be another club entirely, or perhaps I'll remain [at Royal Antwerp]," Lammens commented.

"Regardless, I strive to remain grounded. When clubs of that caliber show interest, I believe it's something you've worked hard to achieve."
Lammens delivered impressive performances for Royal Antwerp during the previous campaign, achieving 10 clean sheets and successfully stopping four out of eight penalty attempts. After joining the club as a free agent from Club Brugge in June 2023, the goalkeeper has featured in 61 senior matches.
While recruiting a young prospect without experience in Europe's premier leagues presents risks for Manchester United, it offers a more economical alternative to pursuing Martínez. Royal Antwerp reportedly values the 23-year-old goalkeeper between €15 million (£13 million; $17.4 million) and €20 million (£17.3 million; $23.2 million).
"I definitely believe in my abilities," Lammens added. "I believe the crucial factor is that my future club, whenever that materializes, has a clear strategy.
"Preferably, that involves immediate playing time, though it's possible I may need an intermediate step. As long as there's a structured plan, it doesn't matter if I'm prepared for the next level immediately. Everyone follows their unique journey, their individual pathway. Even if my next move isn't perfect timing, I'll eventually reach my destination."
