Sir Alex Ferguson Reveals Which Man Utd Summer Signing Left Him Most Stunned

Sir Alex Ferguson praised Senne Lammens for his "exceptional" displays between the sticks for Manchester United, describing the goalkeeper as one of the "positive indicators" for the Red Devils' future.

Manchester United entered the November international break riding a five-match undefeated streak, securing wins over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton while earning draws against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur.

Bryan Mbeumo netted four times during this five-game stretch, with fellow summer arrivals Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško also contributing to the scoring. However, according to the club's most successful manager in history, it's another fresh face who has been the standout performer for Ruben Amorim's squad.

"There are positive signs, the manager has witnessed some encouraging developments," Ferguson shared with Raceday RTV. "The goalkeeper in particular has been exceptional. He's only featured in three or four matches and he's looking tremendously promising."

Senne Lammens celebrating.

Lammens, who transferred to Manchester from Royal Antwerp for an initial sum of £18.1 million ($24.5 million), had to remain patient behind Altay Bayındır during September before earning his maiden start against the Black Cats on October 4.

The Belgian goalkeeper secured a clean sheet on his Old Trafford debut and has featured in every minute since taking over the number one spot. Lammens delivered an especially noteworthy performance against Liverpool, producing five stops and limiting the reigning Premier League champions to a single goal.

Ferguson also acknowledged Mbeumo and Cunha for "contributing" to the Red Devils' recent positive results following a catastrophic 2024–25 campaign in which André Onana, who moved to Süper Lig club Trabzonspor on loan, made error after error between the posts.

Ferguson Optimistic About Man Utd's Trajectory Under Ruben Amorim

Ferguson continues to believe the Red Devils can maintain their current momentum, which would ease some of the burden on Amorim's shoulders. Despite Manchester United occupying seventh position in the Premier League table, they trail third-placed Chelsea by merely two points.

"I hope the manager achieves some success because at United you must have success... the indicators are improving," the former Manchester United manager stated.

"I reflect on consecutive victories as something clubs like United should consistently anticipate. But having endured a period where progress required patience and time, they'll savor this moment now."

Manchester United will look to stretch their unbeaten sequence to six games when they welcome Everton on Monday, November 24.
