Six Deadly Strikers Barcelona Could Target As Julian Alvarez Alternatives This Summer

Julián Álvarez remains Barcelona's primary target to bolster their attack heading into 2026–27, yet the Catalans continue to be linked with other elite strikers from across the continent, with Chelsea's João Pedro emerging as the newest name entering Barça's conversation.

According to ESPN, Barcelona have already made an informal inquiry regarding the 24-year-old Brazilian forward, who joined Chelsea last summer from Brighton for $81.6 million (£60 million). The report further notes that Chelsea have no desire to sell Pedro following a debut campaign in which he's on track to surpass 20 goals across all competitions. Nevertheless, his impressive displays have drawn the attention of the Blaugranas.

Barcelona maintain they will be financially equipped to invest heavily in a striker this summer, though it remains uncertain whether their ongoing economic challenges will once again hamper their transfer activity.

Álvarez is the number one target, but with Atlético Madrid determined to retain him and other clubs also circling, Barcelona may be compelled to explore other options.

Here are six striker alternatives Barcelona could turn to should their pursuit of Álvarez fall short.

João Pedro

João Pedro

Luring Pedro away from Chelsea would be an enormously challenging task, though football has seen more unlikely transfers come to fruition.

ESPN's report describes Pedro as a "cheaper" alternative to Álvarez, yet it would still require a substantial fee to convince Chelsea to part with their standout acquisition from the 2025 summer window.

One element that could work in Barcelona's favor is Chelsea's increasingly fragile financial position. Should the Blues miss out on Champions League qualification—which appears almost certain—they face the prospect of serious financial repercussions.

Desperate for revenue, Chelsea could be pushed into selling key players, and if Barcelona are in a position to act—a significant "if"—then a deal for Pedro becomes considerably more plausible.

Fisnik Asllani

Fisnik Asllani

Barcelona have been monitoring 23-year-old Hoffenheim forward Fisnik Asllani, who has hit double figures in goals during his first complete Bundesliga season with his hometown club.

The Kosovo international has also contributed seven assists and possesses all the hallmarks of a well-rounded, modern striker. His displays this campaign and his overall profile have attracted interest from numerous clubs across Europe, particularly in the Premier League. However, Barcelona appear to hold a distinct advantage for one key reason.

"I've always dreamt of playing for Barcelona," Asllani stated back in October. He has also shared photos on social media watching Barça matches on multiple occasions this season, and his agent has already confirmed that genuine interest exists from the Catalan club.

Asllani would undoubtedly represent a far more affordable option compared to other strikers on Barça's shortlist. That said, he is yet to fully establish himself at the highest level, and Barcelona may first chase more prominent targets before circling back to Asllani if those pursuits come up empty.

Nevertheless, given his age and the talent he has already demonstrated, acquiring Asllani could prove to be an astute piece of business.

Alexander Sørloth

Alexander Sørloth

Should the Álvarez pursuit come to nothing, Barcelona could shift their attention to his Atlético Madrid colleague, the imposing Alexander Sørloth.

Whether lining up for Real Sociedad, Villarreal, or Atlético Madrid, Sørloth has consistently thrived against the Catalans, netting seven goals and providing three assists across his 15 career appearances against Barça.

Sørloth has demonstrated his quality in La Liga and would come at a considerably lower cost than his Argentine counterpart. Indeed, reports emerged in recent weeks suggesting Barcelona's interest in the Norwegian, given the similarities he shares with Robert Lewandowski, who is widely expected to depart the club this summer.

At 30 years old, Sørloth still has plenty of goals left in him, though he would by no means represent Barcelona's long-term striker solution. The Catalans may view him as another transitional option that buys the club time to strengthen their finances before eventually landing a truly world-class forward.

Dusan Vlahovic

Dusan Vlahović

There was a time when Dušan Vlahović appeared destined for greatness after his explosive emergence at Fiorentina earlier this decade. Now, he is set to become a free agent following four-plus underwhelming years at Juventus.

The prospect of a free transfer has firmly brought Vlahović to Barcelona's attention, and at 26 years old, the Serbian international still has time to revive his career.

However, it is equally true that Vlahović has fallen well short of world-class standards for some time, having failed to reach the 20-goal mark in a single season since 2021–22 and managing just six goals so far in 2025–26.

Barcelona are seeking a marquee striker signing, and Vlahović would fall short of that billing. Yet the simple reality that he would arrive at no transfer cost makes it impossible for Barcelona to rule him out entirely—a low-risk, potentially high-reward proposition.

Omar Marmoush

Omar Marmoush

Omar Marmoush has firmly entered Barcelona's thinking in recent weeks, as the Egyptian forward continues to find minutes hard to come by within Man City's loaded attacking unit.

Living in Erling Haaland's shadow is far from ideal—just ask Álvarez. Marmoush had the flexibility to operate in multiple positions during his opening six months at City, but with the arrivals of Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo, his involvement has been drastically reduced, amounting to just seven Premier League starts this season and only 17 appearances in total.

The 27-year-old was among the most sought-after attackers in Europe 18 months ago, and a fresh environment could be precisely what he needs to rediscover his best form. Barcelona look like an ideal destination.

Barcelona could attempt to replicate with Marmoush what Atlético achieved with Álvarez. The Egyptian is similarly a versatile forward capable of fitting into Flick's system as both a finisher and a playmaker.

His transfer fee won't come cheap, but it would fall short of what Álvarez would cost. If available, Marmoush could represent the finest alternative to the Argentine striker.

Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has spent the last two seasons away from Europe's top stage with Galatasaray, but his performances for the Turkish club in the Champions League serve as a timely reminder that he remains one of the most dangerous strikers on the planet.

At 27 years old, the Nigerian international would offer Barcelona a prolific presence in the box for years ahead. The volume of chances Flick's team create would allow Osimhen to thrive, and he could develop into the ideal attacking partner for Lamine Yamal—much as Lewandowski was before age appeared to catch up with him this season.

Once again, however, the hefty transfer fee Galatasaray would demand poses a significant obstacle, and compounding matters further, Osimhen has previously been associated with exceptionally high wage demands, making this move appear increasingly unrealistic.

Yet Barcelona are reportedly interested, and if Osimhen is tempted by a return to elite European football, he could be the missing ingredient Flick's side needs to reach even greater heights—and could easily make everyone in Catalonia move on from thoughts of Álvarez.
