Virgil van Dijk has called on Liverpool to secure a fresh deal with his defensive partner Ibrahima Konaté, while manager Arne Slot is equally eager to finalize an agreement promptly.

Slot, who characterized Konaté as an "essential" component of the squad, stated: "We are in discussions with him so that indicates our intentions. It's evident we would prefer him to remain but talks are continuing so we'll see where that leads. We wouldn't be negotiating if we didn't want him to stay."
