Social Media Erupts as Fans Blame Ineos for Ruben Amorim's Shocking Dismissal

Manchester United have made the choice to dismiss Ruben Amorim from his position following an exceptionally disappointing opening half of the 2025–26 season.

Results and displays were poor under the Portuguese manager last season and although there were minor enhancements during his first complete campaign in charge, the Red Devils remained far below the levels demanded at one of football's most prestigious clubs.

The 1–1 stalemate with Leeds United and Amorim's following outburst regarding his position proved to be the breaking point for United's leadership, who announced the end of his contract on Monday morning.

Predictably, the choice sparked debate across social media platforms. Here are the top immediate responses.

The Correct Decision

Although the choice to sack Amorim hasn't been welcomed by everyone, it's difficult to overlook just how poor the performances were under the former Sporting CP boss. For some, compassion was in short supply.

🗣️ "Good riddance"

You can make the argument that INEOS could have backed Amorim more, but that is not why we were incapable of beating Spurs in a European final, why we couldn't beat Grimsby, or why we can't win at home against Everton, Bournemouth, West Ham, and Wolves. Amorim seemed a nice guy and it's a shame it hasn't worked out, but he's the worst Manchester United manager in my lifetime. An awkward fit from the start, he was given more time than he would've got at most clubs our size and couldn't take the opportunity.

Onto the next one…

I can't even remember the last time I truly enjoyed a Manchester United game since Rúben Amorim's appointment.

The statistics are quite condemning. Amorim ranks statistically among the poorest managers in the club's history and there were limited indications of improvement in the immediate future. The 40-year-old has little reason to protest given his track record.

Rubén Amorim abandoned all the key principles and pillars on which Manchester United identify themselves - playing with width, taking risks, prioritising academy players - and delivered the club's worst results in over half a century.

• 54.17% - Ole Gunnar Solskjær
• 52.94% - David Moyes
• 52.43% - Louis Van Gaal
• 36.92% - Ruben Amorim.

Deeper Problems at Old Trafford

Poor results cannot be denied but Amorim's dismissal has prompted fans to question the club's management—particularly following Amorim's remarks after the Leeds fixture.

Many feel that not all responsibility can rest with him.

You wanted Amorim gone. You got it. Don't cry when nothing changes. This club won't heal until the fanbase stops eating its own.

Another manager sacrificed. Well done INEOS 👏 pic.twitter.com/PeVHT4TV7M

Ruben Amorim could have gone at multiple points over the last year. A historic low league finish, Spurs, Grimsby. That he's been sacked for mouthing off in a presser with Utd in the CL mix says a lot about how muddled the club's board are.

Amorim sacked, as expected after yesterday's outburst. He's done poorly, no question about it. But this entire mess is on Ineos. And Ineos alone.

What's Next?

Obviously, focus now shifts to who will succeed Amorim. The club's Under-18s manager and former midfielder Darren Fletcher will assume temporary control, but who will be the permanent replacement for Amorim? And, crucially, will they manage to achieve what others couldn't?

Amorim basically sacked himself with that interview. United should go for Emery.

If INEOS are waiting until summer then I think it will be either Glasner or Unai Emery.

Personally prefer Emery.

Xavi time to drop the unemployment gimmick . https://t.co/YAXnUDXUCy pic.twitter.com/wK9D4B7eQV

People talking about Xavi for the United job.

Yeah, old mate would probably take one look at his pivot options and land himself in the psych ward lol.
