Spain Boss Breaks Silence on Explosive Carvajal-Yamal Clash Ahead of World Cup Showdown

Spain's head coach Luis de la Fuente shows no concern regarding the tense Clásico confrontation between Dani Carvajal and Lamine Yamal, expressing confidence that both players will "embrace each other" upon their next La Roja gathering.

Yamal captured attention before Barcelona's October visit to the Bernabéu by suggesting Real Madrid "take" and "whine" concerning La Liga refereeing decisions. The young star also emphasized his past victories against Los Blancos through media interviews and social platforms.

However, it was Carlo Ancelotti's squad who secured a 2–1 triumph over Barcelona in a Clásico that concluded amid turmoil. Carvajal approached his national teammate immediately following the final whistle and engaged in a verbal exchange with Yamal, leading to players from both sides gathering in what nearly became a mass confrontation.

When questioned by MARCA about potential concerns regarding the bond between two of his key players before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, De la Fuente replied: "Not at all. In that environment, I ensure we maintain positive relationships.

"I've spoken with both players and understand these situations occur in football at such an elite level. It's essential to separate on-field incidents from national team responsibilities.

"They understand this distinction and are eager to reunite and share an embrace."

De la Fuente: Spain 'Concerned' About Carvajal, Rodri Fitness Issues

Rather than focusing on the Carvajal-Yamal incident, De la Fuente is monitoring the physical condition of the Real Madrid skipper and Rodri. Despite the 2026 World Cup being half a year away, the 64-year-old manager closely tracks both experienced players' rehabilitation progress.

"Player wellness concerns me greatly. This has always been my position," De la Fuente acknowledged. "Additional complications will likely emerge in March, April, and May when recovery periods become shorter. Currently, injuries allow for adequate healing time.

"The situations involving Rodri and Dani are significant, and such injuries create rehabilitation challenges. However, considerable time remains, and I'm confident they'll achieve proper fitness for selection."

Carvajal has remained unavailable since October due to another knee issue requiring arthroscopic intervention. Rodri is currently managing a hamstring concern. Both European champions previously missed playing time this season before their latest physical problems.

Spain anticipates having Carvajal and Rodri at full strength next summer when they begin their World Cup campaign against Cape Verde at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on June 15.
