Lamine Yamal's preparations for the World Cup have been disrupted by a hamstring problem, though the Barcelona sensation is still anticipated to be in full health by the time the tournament kicks off.
Spanish national team fans were furious with Hansi Flick when Yamal went down after converting a penalty in Barça's 1–0 win against Celta Vigo on April 22. The winger has been deployed relentlessly by the German coach since breaking into the senior squad and establishing himself as one of the finest players on the planet.
Yamal has already dazzled on the grandest stage for La Roja, claiming the Young Player of the Tournament award at Euro 2024, a competition Spain won convincingly. Yet it is at the World Cup where the legacies of football's elite are truly defined, and Yamal is gearing up for his maiden appearance at the tournament this summer.

Luis de la Fuente Delivers Encouraging Lamine Yamal Injury Update

Barcelona quickly offered reassurance that the hamstring issue Yamal sustained last month would not derail his World Cup ambitions. Reports have since been mixed regarding the winger's rehabilitation timeline and when he might first feature for La Roja on North American soil.
Those anxiously waiting for answers received much-needed clarity from what could be considered a highly credible source: head coach Luis de la Fuente.
The architect of Spain's European triumph two years ago spoke confidently about Yamal's place in his 26-man World Cup squad, expressing belief that the winger will be cleared to play before their tournament opener.
"First and foremost, caution. We need to give him the time he needs, especially right now," De la Fuente told the media following the announcement of his squad.
"I believe he'll be ready for the first match, and we hope he can meet expectations, but without placing unnecessary pressure on him. He's very mature."
Spain, considered among the frontrunners for the title, open their campaign on June 15 against World Cup newcomers Cabo Verde in Group H.
Why Are No Real Madrid Players Featured in Spain's World Cup Squad?

Yamal is one of eight Barcelona players named in Spain's World Cup squad, a number that would almost certainly have been nine had Fermín López not fractured his foot during the club's final home fixture of the season.
On the opposing side of the Clásico rivalry, De la Fuente selected no Real Madrid players whatsoever. For the first time in World Cup history, Spain's most trophy-laden club will have zero representation in the national team.
Only three Madrid players featured in the Euro 2024 squad, and two of them — Joselu and Nacho Fernández — are now playing their football in the Middle East. The third, experienced full-back Dani Carvajal, failed to make De la Fuente's 55-man preliminary list due to his limited playing time this season.
Dean Huijsen appeared the most probable inclusion, even appearing in Panini's official sticker album for the tournament, but his performances have been inconsistent for Madrid since his arrival last summer. Pau Cubarsí and Marc Pubill were ultimately chosen ahead of him.
The remaining Spanish options at Real Madrid offer little excitement. Raúl Asencio has yet to earn a senior cap, Álvaro Carreras endured a patchy debut season at the club, and Fran García has not demonstrated the required quality.
Striker Gonzalo García is at least participating in the early stages of the training camp as a non-squad player.
Los Blancos will still have a strong presence elsewhere in North America this summer — just not under the Spanish banner.
