Spain's World Cup Dreams Shattered as Devastating Injuries Strike Key Players

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has conceded that winger Yéremy Pino's World Cup campaign could be finished, as reports indicate he may not be the sole player in the squad to have sustained a serious injury.

Pino entered the pitch in the 66th minute of Friday's 1–0 victory against Uruguay but was hurt in the closing moments following a heavy fall on his shoulder. The Crystal Palace winger was visibly in significant pain yet continued playing until the final whistle, as Spain had already exhausted all available substitutions.

"It appears Yeremy may have fractured his collarbone," he said. "They will carry out tests tomorrow and we will assess the full extent of the injury.

"The player is suffering greatly and the effort he has shown is remarkable, potentially playing through a broken collarbone to see out the match ... It was truly heroic and I am deeply grateful, as are all of his teammates."

Should De la Fuente's fears prove correct, not only would Pino's World Cup be over, but the young winger could face a lengthy spell on the injury list spanning several months.

Regrettably for Spain, Pino's setback is not the only significant injury concern in the camp.
