Love has eluded precise description by writers far more celebrated than Al Nassr's skipper, and his brief gesture was warmly embraced. Ronaldo and Rodríguez's shared Instagram post accumulated over three million likes within thirty minutes of going live, while a number roughly equivalent to twice Portugal's population had expressed their support within a single day.
That reaction should come as little shock. Ronaldo's profile is the most followed of any individual on the platform, with more than 8% of the world's population tuning in for regular glimpses of his training sessions and match-day photos. For someone of such extraordinary fame, the quiet nature of the wedding was truly remarkable.
British television personality Piers Morgan, who has sat down with Ronaldo on several occasions and considers him a "friend," described the wedding as a "private and intimate moment" held in Portugal. Local reports indicate that the coastal town of Cascais, situated near Lisbon, served as the venue for the ceremony, which was attended by their five children.
Ronaldo and Rodríguez had been together for nearly a decade before exchanging vows, a milestone that had long seemed inevitable. "We'll be [married] one day, for sure," the Portuguese striker told Morgan back in 2019. "It's my mum's dream as well. So, one day. Why not?" That day has finally arrived.
'Love at First Sight'—How Ronaldo and Rodriguez Met
Owing to his unmatched celebrity status and well-known devotion to his sport, Ronaldo has long led a somewhat solitary life. James Gay-Rees, the producer behind Ronaldo's self-titled 2015 documentary, described the former Real Madrid star's day-to-day existence as "pretty brutal, lonely."
"He's got a very small group of friends and he surrounds himself with his family," Gay-Rees told the BBC at the time. "I think the level of sacrifice required to operate at that level is beyond most of our understanding."
Ronaldo would first cross paths with Rodríguez a year after the documentary's release, while he was still based in the Spanish capital.
"Our first meeting was at Gucci, where I worked as a sales assistant," Rodríguez later recalled. "Days later, we ran into each other again at another brand's event. It was there that we were able to talk in a relaxed setting, away from my work environment. It was love at first sight for both of us."
"Being the partner of someone so famous is not easy, but I wouldn't trade it for anything," Rodríguez added. "What I feel for him is stronger than anything, any kind of pressure."
The model and influencer featured in her own documentary—I Am Georgina—where she revealed that marriage had become a running joke among her circle of friends. "Since Jennifer Lopez's song 'The Ring Or When' came out, they started singing it to me," Rodríguez laughed. "And well, this is not up to me."
When Will Cristiano Ronaldo Play Soccer Again?
Ronaldo's most recent public appearance carried a very different mood compared to this joyful milestone. Portugal's captain could do nothing as eventual champions Spain ground out a 1–0 victory in the World Cup round of 16 clash last month.
The 41-year-old confirmed that this would mark his final appearance at the global tournament, though new Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus left the door open for his continued international involvement. "If he is in a position to be called up, I will do so," Ronaldo's former Al Nassr boss stated plainly.
Before any return to international duty, Ronaldo will first be back on the pitch in the Saudi Pro League. Al Nassr kick off the defense of their league title on Saturday against Al Fateh, before turning their attention to the King Cup of Champions on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
