Sporting Director Champions Shock Vinicius Junior Transfer Pursuit

Flamengo's sporting director José Boto is confident that Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior will eventually "desire to return" to the club where he began his career.

Following twelve months of contract discussions, Vinicius Jr has still not signed a new agreement with Los Blancos. The Brazilian international, whose existing contract runs until June 2027, is reportedly seeking a groundbreaking €30 million ($34.6 million) annual wage, which has stalled progress between both sides.

Earlier friction between Xabi Alonso and Vinicius Jr complicated the situation further; the talented attacker allegedly suspended all contract talks in November due to his deteriorating relationship with the new manager.

The stagnant negotiations have raised doubts about the future of Real Madrid's number 7. While Saudi Pro League teams are pursuing the 25-year-old, Flamengo, his former club, are also expressing interest in bringing him back.

"Anyone who experiences Flamengo develops an eternal love and devotion," Boto shared with AS. "Eventually, he will desire to return. That's certain."

Vinicius Jr featured in 69 matches for Flamengo, netting 14 goals, before joining Real Madrid in 2017 when he was just 16. After turning 18, the Brazilian departed his homeland for Spain's capital city.

Vinicius Jr's Poor Form May Undermine Salary Expectations

Vinicius Jr's current 13-match scoring drought isn't helping his case for substantial wage increases. The 25-year-old's most recent goal came during the team's 3–1 triumph over Villarreal on Oct. 4.

Since that Bernabéu performance, Vinicius Jr has contributed just three assists, with two coming against Olympiacos in Champions League action. The winger continues to struggle with adapting to playing alongside Kylian Mbappé.

The French striker has netted 28 times this campaign while Vinicius Jr has managed only five goals. What was previously his attacking domain has clearly shifted to become Mbappé's territory.

Nevertheless, the former Flamengo talent has repeatedly expressed his commitment and dedication to Real Madrid. Both parties must now formalize their relationship, and a revival of Vinicius Jr's peak performance would certainly accelerate negotiations.
