Steven Gerrard Delivers Shocking Assessment of Liverpool Manager Role as Slot Replacement Rumors Swirl

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed he would eagerly embrace any chance to return to Anfield, though he emphasized he has no intention of replacing Arne Slot as head coach at present.

Slot finds himself under significant scrutiny at Liverpool following struggles to capitalize on last season's Premier League championship success. Despite a record-breaking transfer expenditure that brought in players like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, the expected improvements haven't materialized, while a public disagreement with key player Mohamed Salah has intensified speculation about Slot's future.

During this turbulent period, supporters have suggested Liverpool should turn to club icon Gerrard, who has been without a position since leaving Al Ettifaq in January. The legendary former captain was viewed as someone who could elevate team standards through his deep connection to the club, where he ranks third in all-time appearances and sixth among top scorers.

In an interview with TNT Sports' Ally's Social Club, Gerrard openly acknowledged his ambition to manage Liverpool someday, though he stressed he's not eager to rush into that role.

"I'll be completely, completely transparent with you," stated Gerrard, whom ex-manager Jürgen Klopp previously endorsed as a future Liverpool leader. "I'd assist Liverpool in any capacity at any moment of any day. I'd support them with whatever they need.

"I don't wish for the Liverpool manager to be dismissed. I want Arne Slot to resolve this situation and turn things around to restore Liverpool's greatness. I was celebrating throughout the city four or five months ago when Liverpool claimed the title.

"I'm a Liverpool supporter, I want what's best for Liverpool, but if Liverpool requires me in any role at any moment, I'll be available for them."

ANALYSIS: Is Slot Still Under Pressure?

Arne Slot

The attention will always remain fierce on coaches at this elite level. Slot will never completely avoid criticism but he has certainly reduced the burden on himself in recent weeks.

Though on-pitch displays remain inconsistent, Liverpool have shown clear improvement since Slot adopted a more compact formation. This tactical adjustment may have unintentionally increased tension through its effect on Salah, but both parties seem to have worked through their major disagreements.

Currently, it would be tremendously surprising to witness Slot's dismissal. Liverpool continue backing the Dutch manager, who has accumulated significant goodwill following last season's unexpected championship triumph.

Right now, despite the narrative potentially trending toward pessimism, Liverpool remain competitive for Champions League qualification and have gone six matches without defeat across all tournaments. Slot has stabilized the situation and hopes to have weathered the most challenging period of his coaching tenure.

The setback to marquee signing Isak has, nevertheless, presented Slot with a completely different challenge to solve, but all indications suggest he will receive ample opportunity to work through these issues.
