Supercomputer Reveals Its Champions League Champion Pick Following Thrilling Quarterfinal Openers

The quarterfinals of the 2025–26 Champions League are at the halfway point, having already delivered a wealth of drama, controversy and thrilling moments across the board.

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain steamrolled Liverpool to take a commanding advantage, while Arsenal scraped past Sporting CP with a narrow 1–0 margin to keep their dream of a historic double on track.

After Premier League clubs endured a tough round of 16, it was La Liga's turn to suffer in the quarterfinals. Real Madrid face a steep uphill battle following a 2–1 home loss to Bayern Munich, and Barcelona are in desperate need of another miraculous turnaround after falling to Atlético Madrid.

The Opta supercomputer has been crunching the numbers in the wake of those results, identifying its top pick to go the distance and claim European football's most coveted prize.

Arsenal's victory over Sporting may not have been a masterclass, but the Gunners' consistent ability to grind out results makes them an extremely difficult team to bet against.

Mikel Arteta's men lead the standings, with a 36.32% probability of lifting the trophy when the season concludes.

The most serious challenge to Arsenal's European ambitions is expected to come from Bayern Munich, who finished runners-up in the league phase behind the Gunners. Vincent Kompany's team carry a 28.90% chance of being crowned champions.

Beyond those two clubs, there is a notable drop to third place, with the supercomputer making clear that any outcome other than an Arsenal or Bayern triumph would be a major shock. Title holders PSG, given a 16.01% probability of winning, could still have a say in proceedings.

Atlético Madrid's chances of a surprise run were naturally boosted by their 2–0 victory over Barcelona. Diego Simeone's men are heavy favorites to reach the semifinals but are assigned just a 9.27% chance of going all the way.

Even so, that figure exceeds Barcelona's, whose prospects of Champions League glory have nosedived to just 3.57%.

Real Madrid will be hoping their legendary capacity for the extraordinary hasn't run dry after their last-16 win over Manchester City. Facing a one-goal deficit against Bayern leaves them with a mere 2.64% chance of progressing.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have seen their odds tumble to just 2.09% — a figure many Reds supporters might argue is still somewhat flattering given their current form. Manager Arne Slot acknowledged they were fortunate to leave the first leg against PSG only two goals behind, and will need a roaring Anfield atmosphere to inspire a comeback in the return fixture.

Propping up the table are rank outsiders Sporting CP. The supercomputer puts their overall chances of winning at just 1.20%, with their odds of advancing to the next round barely any better despite trailing Arsenal by only a single goal.
