Supercomputer Reveals Shock 2026 World Cup Champion Once Group Stage Drama Unfolds

The group stage of the 2026 World Cup has wrapped up and the tournament now charges forward into the round of 32.

We began this summer with 48 nations but the field has been trimmed to 32. Notable casualties include Uruguay, Scotland and Türkiye, yet all the pre-tournament frontrunners remain in contention as the competition continues across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

With the round of 32 set to kick off on Sunday, the Opta supercomputer has been hard at work calculating each team's probability of lifting the trophy.

Supercomputer Predicts World Cup Round of 32

Lionel Messi

No team carries stronger odds of advancing to the round of 16 than Argentina. Standing between them and progression is underdog Cabo Verde, whose impressive run is widely expected to come to a decisive end in the near future.

Spain is tipped to dispatch Austria with ease, while England is similarly favored in their clash with DR Congo. Both nations entered this summer's competition with deep-run ambitions, and the supercomputer foresees no early stumbling blocks for either side.

Just behind those two sits France. Sweden is expected to provide a stern test, though much will hinge on which version of Graham Potter's team shows up: the one that demolished Tunisia 5–1 or the one that suffered an identical defeat to the Netherlands.

Mauricio Pochettino's USMNT is also given strong advancement odds heading into the next round, sitting at 78.46%. Fellow co-hosts Canada and Mexico are likewise projected to progress without major difficulty.
