Angel City FC wrapped up March without a single defeat, standing as the only team in the National Women's Soccer League to achieve that feat. This impressive start to the campaign was largely driven by the clinical finishing of Icelandic forward Sveindís Jónsdóttir.
Jónsdóttir becomes the inaugural recipient of Sports Illustrated's NWSL MVP of the Month, a newly introduced monthly honor designed to highlight players making a meaningful impact for their clubs in the NWSL.
"I am thrilled to receive this recognition and to be the very first," Jónsdóttir says, "Hopefully, there is plenty more to come!"
The 24-year-old racked up three goals and two assists across three March fixtures, contributing to the scoresheet in every game, placing her among the frontrunners in the league's Golden Boot standings.
Jónsdóttir's strong early-season form also earned her the NWSL Player of the Month award and a place in the NWSL Best XI.

The winger made the move to Angel City in 2025 from German club VfL Wolfsburg. Although 2025 proved to be a relatively subdued year for Jónsdóttir, she has hit the ground running this season and has become a key figure in ACFC's ongoing success.
Jónsdóttir's sharpness in front of goal and her explosive pace on the counter have been evident from the opening weeks of the season. In her assist contributions, Jónsdóttir has demonstrated a keen ability to thread the ball into space at precisely the right moment, reading her teammates' runs and setting them up for the finish.

Last season, Angel City fell short of the playoffs by nine points. A strong start to the 2026 season, fueled by Jónsdóttir's contributions, could be exactly what the club needs to secure a postseason return for the first time since their 2023 appearance during the club's debut campaign.
