Tchouameni's Next Chapter: Five Exciting Clubs Battling to Land Real Madrid's Midfield Star—Ranked

Real Madrid must be eyeing this absurd midfield market and thinking they could command top dollar if a serious suitor surfaces for Aurélien Tchouaméni this summer.

Suddenly, Newcastle United's Italy international Sandro Tonali is a £100 million ($134 million) footballer—Tottenham Hotspur the club prepared to splash the cash—and while the Italian is a highly capable midfielder deserving of recognition, the days when such figures were reserved exclusively for the elite tier of talent are long gone.

Rampant inflation combined with some old-fashioned desperation pushed Spurs into making the moves they did. In doing so, they may well have blocked their rivals from securing midfield targets of their own.

New Real Madrid manager José Mourinho, returning for a second stint at the Bernabéu, should not be looking to offload Tchouaméni. Amid a turbulent 2025–26 campaign for Real Madrid, the Frenchman held his ground, delivered a largely impressive season in the Spanish capital, and is performing once again for his national side on the grandest stage.

Nevertheless, according to Spanish outlet SPORT, Madrid are considering parting ways with the accomplished midfielder to "generate financial flexibility" and pursue "top-level signings." Letting one of your "top-level" players go to fund such moves seems self-defeating, but this is Real Madrid and re-elected president Florentino Pérez rarely plays by conventional rules.

So, if Tchouaméni truly is available this summer, here are five possible destinations for him, ranked by a blend of suitability and the probability of any transfer materializing.

5. Bayern Munich

Leon Goretzka

It's been a long time since Bayern Munich were linked with Tchouaméni. 2023, to be precise.

Much has shifted since then, with Vincent Kompany taking charge and transforming Die Roten into the most lethal attacking force German football has ever witnessed.

Joshua Kimmich remains a fixture in midfield, and Aleksandar Pavlović has stepped up to become his captain's go-to partner.

The club parted ways with Leon Goretzka at the conclusion of another triumphant domestic campaign, suggesting there is a vacancy to be addressed in Bayern's engine room.

However, recent reports indicate they are satisfied with their midfield options heading into 2026–27. Young Tom Bischof is set to take on a more prominent role, and there is also growing anticipation surrounding 20-year-old Noël Aséko.

It would take something extraordinary for the club to chase Tchouaméni this summer.

4. Chelsea

Enzo Fernández

A Chelsea move for Tchouaméni has never truly been in the picture, and any potential pursuit became even less likely when Real Madrid confirmed they would not be signing Enzo Fernández this summer.

Had Los Blancos opted to move for the Argentine midfielder, the Blues might well have sought Tchouaméni as part of the arrangement.

It remains unclear what Chelsea's midfield will look like under Xabi Alonso, though their transfer activity suggests the Spaniard will deploy a back three at Stamford Bridge. Alonso may be aiming to recreate the dynamics he built at Bayer Leverkusen, even attempting to bring in one of that team's standout performers, Granit Xhaka.

While Tchouaméni would strengthen almost any side on the continent, Chelsea have no pressing need for a holding midfielder with Moisés Caicedo firmly still in their squad.
