Yan Diomande has yet to officially become a Real Madrid player, as a reported dispute between two agencies is holding up the registration transfer of the young talent from RB Leipzig.
This issue has been simmering throughout the year, well before Diomande began weighing his next career move. Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool were among the first clubs attempting to secure his signature, before Real Madrid entered the picture somewhat later and ultimately emerged victorious in the pursuit.
Despite a transfer believed to be worth approximately $156 million (€135 million) in total reportedly being agreed upon, the finalization of the Diomande deal is being stalled by circumstances beyond Real Madrid's control.
Two Agencies Fighting Over Diomande
The conflict involves Maxidel Management, a boutique agency operated by former Côte d'Ivoire international Max Gradel, and Roc Nation Sports, Jay-Z's expansive sports representation firm that is actively looking to expand its soccer portfolio by signing players such as Diomande. Among those already represented by the latter are Vinícius Júnior, Endrick, Gabriel Martinelli, and USMNT defender Chris Richards.
Maxidel Management handled Diomande's move to Leipzig from Leganés last summer and secured a new representation contract with the player at the start of 2026. The agency described it as "a testament to a solid relationship built on trust, commitment and a shared vision for his sporting career" and expressed gratitude for Diomande's "loyalty and confidence."
Merely five weeks later, Roc Nation Sports publicly welcomed Diomande to the "family" via a social media announcement. During the early weeks of the World Cup in June, Roc Nation's main Instagram account posted photos of the player touring the company's New York headquarters.
Shortly after Roc Nation Sports first staked their claim to Diomande, Maxidel Management publicly asserted that Diomande "remains contractually bound to our agency."
Real Madrid Hoping for 'Swift Resolution'
AS reports that Real Madrid conducted transfer negotiations with Roc Nation Sports and that Maxidel Management has since lodged a complaint with FIFA "alleging a breach of contract." The Spanish club is said to have been completely unaware of the dispute but anticipates being "vindicated" in the end.
Any "open dispute" over a player's representation rights could prompt FIFA to delay or, in extreme circumstances, block the issuance of an International Transfer Certificate (ITC). This is a critical document which, as FIFPro explains, is "provided from one national association to another in order to facilitate the transfer of a player between different countries."
The matter is also significant for Real Madrid because paying commission to the "wrong" agent during the process can lead to sanctions, making it essential to carefully navigate the legal complexities involved. Los Blancos are hopeful for a "swift resolution," though it is understandable why Maxidel Management feels aggrieved, appearing to have lost a player they carefully developed to a more powerful rival agency.
