The Champions League is built to bring Europe's finest football clubs together, yet that hasn't stopped some truly one-sided encounters from taking place over the years.
The tournament's expansion has only amplified the number of lopsided matchups, frequently producing remarkable scorelines as Europe's powerhouses dismantle outclassed opponents.
Dec. 10, 2003 stands as a landmark date in Champions League history, as Juventus recorded the competition's largest-ever winning margin by crushing Olympiacos 7–0. Since that occasion, 16 additional matches have been decided by seven or more goals.
With that in mind, here is a look at the most emphatic victories in Champions League history.
The Biggest Margins of Victory in Champions League History

Just three clubs have claimed Champions League victories by an eight-goal margin since the competition was rebranded in 1992. Liverpool were the first to accomplish this, doing so in 2007 with a dominant 8–0 home thrashing of Beşiktaş, a game in which Yossi Benayoun netted a hat trick. The result was a dramatic reversal from their opening group stage encounter that season, which the Turkish club had won 2–1.
Six-time European Cup champions Liverpool came close to repeating that margin twice under Jürgen Klopp, falling just one goal short on both occasions. Back-to-back 7–0 victories over Spartak Moscow and Maribor came during the 2017–18 campaign, as the Reds plundered 23 goals in the group stage before advancing to the final, powered by their devastating attacking trio of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané.
Real Madrid are the only other side to have posted an 8–0 scoreline in the competition, with their stunning evening against Malmö in 2015 highlighted by four goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and a hat trick from Karim Benzema. All eight goals were netted within a remarkable 62-minute spell at the Bernabéu.
Como became the latest club to enter the eight-goal victory club during their maiden Champions League campaign. Remarkably, the Italian side triumphed 9–1 away at Lens, with six other players finding the net alongside Anastasios Douvikas's hat trick. It was an extraordinary evening for Cesc Fàbregas's squad.
Only Bayern Munich had previously managed to score nine goals in a single Champions League fixture, with Dinamo Zagreb's defense repeatedly torn apart at the Allianz Arena. The Croatian outfit did manage to score twice, however, slightly narrowing their overall defeat.

Several clubs have recorded 7–0 wins over the years, but Shakhtar hold the unique distinction of having both inflicted and suffered that exact scoreline. After humbling BATE Borisov earlier in the 2014–15 season, the Ukrainian club were on the receiving end in the knockout rounds, suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Bayern.
The Germans had also dismantled Basel 7–0 three years prior, adding to an ever-growing list of results by that scoreline. Valencia, Marseille and Arsenal had all previously set the benchmark, and Barcelona followed suit when they tore Celtic apart by seven goals in 2016. One of the most remarkable team sheets in the competition's history featured Lionel Messi (three goals), Luis Suárez (two goals), Andrés Iniesta and Neymar.
Manchester City relished clashes with German opposition during the Pep Guardiola era, defeating Schalke and RB Leipzig by seven goals across a four-year span. Paris Saint-Germain are the most recent side to win 7–0, dispatching Brest with seven different scorers during the knockout playoff round in 2024–25.
