Chelsea star João Pedro has disclosed that his unwavering faith in the club's direction was the primary reason behind his decision to put pen to paper on a contract extension in west London, despite considerable interest from the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona.

Pedro wrapped up his debut season in west London with his standing significantly elevated, which is no small achievement in a campaign that saw the Blues rotate through three different managers and finish as low as 10th in the Premier League. The Brazilian earned the club's Player of the Season award, yet still found himself left off Carlo Ancelotti's World Cup squad. That said, his summer was far from quiet.

With a global scarcity of clinical center forwards, Pedro quickly became a target for a number of top-tier clubs. Both Arsenal and Barcelona were reportedly pursuing the 24-year-old, largely as an alternative to Julián Alvarez, who was never realistically going to depart Atlético Madrid.

The reigning champions of England and Spain respectively both offered enticing prospects, especially when weighed against Chelsea's forthcoming season without any European football. Nevertheless, Pedro remained resolute, ultimately committing to a fresh deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge through to 2034.
