Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly declined the chance to acquire Arsenal left back Myles Lewis-Skelly, leaving his future at the north London club increasingly uncertain.
When Lewis-Skelly penned a long-term extension with the Gunners back in June 2025, he outlined an ambitious vision: "I want to win everything there is to win in the game." The young star, who secured his future at his childhood club through 2030, wasted no time making an impact, contributing to Arsenal's Premier League title triumph last season.
He also featured in the starting lineup for the Champions League final, a game that ended in disappointment for the newly crowned English champions. The outlook seemed undeniably promising for Mikel Arteta's squad ... though perhaps less so for Lewis-Skelly personally.
Recent reports indicate Arsenal placed a $60.8 million (£45 million) asking price on the England international and made him available to rivals United and Chelsea. Both clubs were quick to respond.
According to The Telegraph, United and Chelsea promptly rejected the opportunity to bring in Lewis-Skelly. There is a "strong feeling" the 19-year-old has been shopped around to multiple clubs as Arsenal look to cash in on their homegrown talent, with any sale representing pure profit.
Why Man Utd, Chelsea 'Snubbed' Lewis-Skelly
Chelsea's decision to pass on Lewis-Skelly comes as little surprise. Although the Blues parted ways with starting left back Marc Cucurella this summer, they have already secured his successor in Pep Chavarría.
The former Rayo Vallecano standout put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Chelsea on Wednesday, joining Xabi Alonso's project for approximately $28.8 million. The west London club has now splashed over $400 million this summer, bringing in the likes of Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix and Geovany Quenda, among others, to Stamford Bridge.
United, however, have been considerably less busy this summer and still need a left back and a third midfielder, having already brought in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. Lewis-Skelly could have addressed both requirements, but the Red Devils appear to be prioritizing a move for Newcastle United left back Lewis Hall.
The 20-time English champions have also been connected with Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga, a versatile player capable of operating in both midfield and at left back.
What's Next for Lewis-Skelly at Arsenal?
Lewis-Skelly enjoyed a breakthrough 2024–25 campaign in an Arsenal shirt, only to find himself largely sidelined last season. Arteta favored new signing Piero Hincapié at left back, with Riccardo Calafiori also claiming significant minutes in that role.

As a result, the teenager's best opportunity for playing time shifted to midfield. Lewis-Skelly managed to earn the starting nod over Martín Zubimendi in the Champions League final, lining up alongside Declan Rice.
However, with Bruno Guimarães now arriving from Newcastle, Lewis-Skelly's prospects of securing regular midfield minutes look extremely slim. Martin Ødegaard, Mikel Merino and even Kai Havertz are further options at Arteta's disposal, pushing Lewis-Skelly to the periphery with no clear route back into the starting eleven.
Nevertheless, The Telegraph reports that Lewis-Skelly remains "determined to fight for his place" at the Emirates. Realistically, though, success may prove elusive. The Englishman will likely find himself featuring predominantly in cup competitions rather than high-profile Premier League and Champions League fixtures next season — a consequence of choosing to stay in north London rather than seeking a fresh start elsewhere.
